So yeah guys, it is a bit odd that there hasn't been a decent D&D movie. I'm hoping to change that, so I'm putting together a screenplay. If anyone has any ideas...any at all, for setting, how to pitch this screenplay to, characters, story, opponents, whatever...I'm eager to hear it.

So, what do you say guys?

Forgotten Realms for the setting. No Drizzt, though. And no 4th edition storyline garbage.

Maybe one about Elminster.

A wacky group of friends are somehow teleported into their game of D&D as their characters!

Starring:
- the nerdy guy who knows the game back to back, and is always either coming up with solutions at the last second, or over-thinking things that can be solved simply (Magician);
- the handsome normal guy, who serves as the moral centre of the party, and a source of leadership and inspiration when times are tough (Paladin/Warrior);
- the quiet, shy, non-violent girl who is consistently useless, and reluctant to use her powers except when the show really needs her to (Priest/Monk/Druid);
- the hot chick who is dubious and dismissive of the whole situation, getting the party into trouble more than she gets them out (Ranger/Rogue);
- the weird guy who serves as the comic relief, and displays a more serious side when we least expect him to, thus enabling the show to develop a more serious tone on demand (Sorceror/Bard).

Follow these characters as they:
- battle monsters!
- take and complete quests!
- find loot and treasure!
- pile on the D&D references and puns!
- develop, both as characters and as people!
- discover the true meaning of friendship!
- solidify stereotypes in the mind of the audience!

Starring Rob Schneider as the narrator!

I think that the Paladin needs to be morally ambiguous. There are few things more amusing than a paladin who, on the surface is good and kind, but eventually you see a very dark side to that character. Yes, I know that paladins are supposed to be good guys who never do anything wrong or mean, but those guys are no fun[footnote]Yeah, I realize that he would then play the role of the straight man, but that's kind of a trope I like to see get messed with.[/footnote]. He doesn't have to be evil, but I think there needs to be a certain cruelty beneath the facade of purity.

So wait, Futurama's Bender's Game movie wasn't based on D&D? I'm shocked.

But seriously, isn't the appeal of D&D in telling your own story, not having one told to you?

Specifically 'The Gamers II: Dorkness Rising'.
The entire thing is on YouTube it seems.

Also, the Penny Arcade D&D podcasts and videos.

Ugh, I found the second part absolutely horrible. The original is much, much better.

You mean a little like darker Keldorn from Baldur's Gate 2? So righteous that everything not good was evil and therefore needs to be smitten with divine power? He actually wants to kill Viconia, a reasonable drow, just because she's a drow.
For example saving a puppy from a drow, one nice, puppy-lovin', caring drow, because DROWS are EVIL, by mercilessly beheading that puppy-lover? I would like that kind of paladin :)

I was mostly just taking the piss out of... I don't know, I guess wacky sitcoms in general.

But in truth, I would watch the hell out of the show I just described, and I agree that it would be interesting if there was more to the characters than just their cliches.

Base a movie off the Ebberon setting.
It makes the entirety of the Forgotten Realms blush in its cloak of stereotypical fantasy.

Get a party of a Korranberg Chronicle reporter, a mage/investment manager from one House, a bard from House Phiarlan, a player from Thuranni, a warforged gone rogue in every sense of the word, and an airship pirate [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPH1OoTobtk] on whose ship they all crashland into the Mournlands, blown off course by a mysterious manifestation of planar energy as one of the planes becomes coterminous. Of course, the mage needs a Quori trying to Mind Seed him.

Or you know, just follow a group of Dark Lanterns, as they uncover a scheme to bring the world to war again, with one House apparently aiming to start the war out on top. Of course, the spies will have to infiltrate deep into more than one court to find but a single man manipulating things towards a collision. And he's Brelish. Will they be able to extricate him and bring him to justice without anyone being able to smear the Brelish crown with his mad scheming?

Possibilities, as they say, are endless!

No, that's highly disturbing and not morally ambiguous(its religious fanaticism). I mean a paladin who scalps his foes (even the ones he trips and falls on, this totally happened to me once), or tortures people even though the god he serves is good.

Another idea is a guy who was raised to be a wizard but due to having more interest in cracking skulls, he just kind of beats people with his staff and occasionally casts a spell, mostly on accident.

Hm... Guess some of my likes are kinda disturbing :)
So what you mean is more of a Machiavellian paladin? Ends justify the means type? Though that would be more of a fallen paladin (FR wise).

And with the wizard: you reminded me of one archmage from Discworld. His philosophy is that if something doesn't give in to 6ft sturdy oak staff, magic won't help either :D

Shut up, if they are a Blackguard, its less fun. I mean, you expect it from a blackguard, but when it comes from a paladin its considerably more amusing/badass. I normally play as Paladins or Blackguards, so this is in part coming from having played this kind of character.

And with the wizard: you reminded me of one archmage from Discworld. His philosophy is that if something doesn't give in to 6ft sturdy oak staff, magic won't help either :D
I actually got the idea from an old anime called Rune Soldier. The main character's staff is literally a club.

Actually, I have. It's quite good, I reckon. What I'm going for though is something a little more ambitious. Good movie though. First one, even better.
