As the title says, we all have games we may absolutely hate, that the sheer memory of playing brings back unspeakable horros and haunts our souls till' the day we die. Yet, was there something you liked about the game? Maybe some of the writing was actually rather funny, or well-placed drama was executed well.

I myself absolutely despise games that carry 'artsy' elements like blur during certain events or rose-tints during whatever the hell. I do like the effects themselves, but the situations they are used could have been wayyyy better.

How about you?

The game I loathe most is a GBA game called Bionicle: Matoran adventures.

...The controls are atrocious and loose, the gameplay is shoddy, and they didn't even bother respriting the different characters (the most obvious thing about bionicle is the different masks that each elemental character wears. ...In this game, they ALL have the same mask, regardless of person or element.)

But hey, the music was DAMN GOOD.

The one good thing about the game I hate the most...is the fact that I don't own it.

Barney's Hide and Seek for the Sega Genesis kept my little sister entertained for hours on end while we were younger. It's also kind of a model for the modern arty point a to point b with nothing to do in between but look at stuff genre (think Dear Esther and The Path.)

You may be wondering how I wound up with this game. I was at a flea market as a young child, found a buy one get one free sale on Genesis games, and my parents made me let my sister (who was very, very young) pick the free one. I got Desert Strike out of it, though, so it wasn't all bad.

Edit: Fun fact about Desert Strike; it was published by EA, back when they always spelled out their full name and were a relatively small publisher producing some pretty cool stuff.

Edit Edit: Come to think of it, I don't despise it the most anymore. I did when I was a kid, but as an adult I can see that it did exactly what it was supposed to do, which is keep toddlers happy. I dislike the modern "art" games that are disturbingly similar to that game for toddlers yet praised as the best thing ever by grown men and women quite a bit more.

The game I hate the most...

God, that's a tough one.

I'm going to have to go with X-Treme Paintbrawl 2. It...didn't seem terribly buggy? All the massive fuckups were intended? I think?

Aliens vs Predator makes a pretty damn good frisbee. Or you can use it as a coaster.

Seriously fuck this game.

Silent Hill Homecoming actually had some very good looking monster, set and level design.

The combat system was pigshit and the story sucked...but hey can't win 'em all right?

Baroque had an interesting concept of amnesia and death in order to proceed. I just have a problem with dying in one hit to a hidden landmine even when buffed to hell.

Perfect Dark Zero? I...liked Joanna's hair...

Dragon Age 2 tried to make a new interesting kind of storytelling.
(It failed, but hey)
