I always find this sort of "try and say something nice about X" to be kind of silly and self-defeating, as you're essentially asking people to reach to scrape up anything nice to say.

That said, I like many of their games and they are a prevalent publisher for a reason.
That is the point of the thread. To make people see that as bad as something is there is at least one good thing about it. It will not work with everything but it is beter the the endless 'Why do you/I/we hate X' topics we have had recently.
If you have to browbeat it out of people, you've already defeated the purpose.

And it's not going to stem the hate. Sorry, but finding a diamond in a pile of shit doesn't mean it's not a pile of shit.
Granted, but you still have a diamond.

(Damn, it's only industrial quality.)

They gave us Brutal Legend.

I may have some grips about that game, I do think it was a fun game, and they gave it to us when Activision didn't want to.

Also, Mirror's Edge.

They are a major publisher in the gaming industry and without them the landscape and rise of gaming would look very differently. I mean they often give games a chance. Maybe not some of the more less likely to sell games but I don't think too many other publishers out there would have give Kingdoms of Amular a chance or Dead Space. I may not be a fan of most of their business practices, liking running good studios into the ground or Day DLC that ends in five minutes etc, but I am willing to admit they have had just as much a positive impact on gaming as they have had a negative one.

EA did not give me AIDS. Unlike that treacherous hypodermic needle I found in that bathroom stall...

Seriously, though; I don't care for EA all that much. While some of their business practices are rather ill-conceived there are more important things to get upset about.

They have published the physical version of the orange box.'

I don't think they are evil, they have just done a series of bad choices.

I like the idea of project 10 dollars since it rewards those who buy games new without keeping it unaccessible for those who buy used.

Hmmm .. er well .. John Maddens football on mega-drive was nice. ;0)

Being serious though, they are not as bad as many would want you to believe, though it is notable that Bioware has suffered a bit since the merge.

On plus side, EA did put out The Secret World, which is superb. They are willing to take a punt on smaller companies, though maybe that is just a part of a bigger nefarious plan to take over the world...

Yipes feeling a touch discombobulated now.. need a nice cuppa and a wee lie down.

They green-lit Mirror's Edge. It's not enough to get me to get Origin if they make a sequel, but I'll overlook a lot of their low-quality (or at least low-originality) games for it.

They've published several games I like and enjoy. If I were the sort of person who based my purchases on what I felt like playing instead of getting het up by who made it (and I am) then I might even say they are one of my favourite videogame publishers. Big fan of Mass Effect, big fan of the Harry Potter games and had quite some fun with Rock Band.

Yeah, I don't know how I can possibly stand up for a publisher that's given me literally hundreds of hours of entertainment.

They are sort of like Valve... I mean they see talent and they scoop it up give it a bunch of money and tell them to make it good.

I'll just leave the cut-throat deadlines and taking hollywood movie like risks out of it.

I fucking love Dead Space, Mass Effect, Dragon Age... just Bioware in general.

EA is pretty bad, yes, but people treat them like the Anti-Christ and I don't think they deserve that kind of harsh judgment YET.

At the end of the day, love them or hate them, you're gonna slurp down every ounce of bullshit they spoonfeed you and enjoy every drop anyway, so why not just come out of the closet and admit that they aren't THAT bad.

I'm pretty sure you missed the point, the point isn't to stem the hate on EA, and it isn't browbeating if they don't force it out of you, if you don't want to answer you can simply choose not to, and if a person did grudgingly say a tiny good thing about them, that this has done it's purpose.

Personally they've published a lot of my favourite games and I like that they do take some risks with companies.

They have a really positive attitude to homosexuality in their games and employment practices.

I actually like EA :) questionable business practices or not, the games they publish are undeniably high quality most of the time. Dead Space 1 & 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dante's Inferno, and Shadows of the Damned immediately spring to mind, and it's even better when you think about them being new IPs. Dead Space and Shadows of the Damned were especially risky projects to back, I think, but I'm really glad they did! In fact, I think I'll go play some KOA right now! Thanks for inspiring me, Escapist!

EDIT: Oh, and Mirror's Edge! That was awesome, and I've heard they're planning a sequel, which is equal parts awesome and surprising, considering the sales of the first.

They used to be pretty good, back when they were electronic arts. Not so much anymore. Now they're just a Shambling Corporate Presence.

Oh boy! Another "I hate EA, Activision and [insert major publisher here],except Valve ofc."...I haven't seen one of these threads in a while. I, and a few others who are lurking on this site, get it...they like to make money out of the titles they publish...god forbid a company might do that. It's not like i'm defending them or anything, they do have a history of rushing their products while drooling over the thought of another major injection of money, but still...again with the "OMG EVIL CORPORATION!" discussions?

Also...we all know most of the people who have commented will sell out and buy their newest title when it comes out...
