Well played OP, well played indeed on the title...
For me, Victoria, and Sheffield.
Obvious reference is obvious. Points for people who guess it!

You and your references.
Especially star trek. My opinion of that show is... low. We'll leave it at that.

I would name them Oath of Defiance and Dawn's Light. Why, you ask? Because I like gay names like that.

The first one will be named, "Forty," and the second one will be named, "Two."

^Was the first thing that came to mind.

If Mankind Didn't really launch two spaceships, then why is the topic title "mankind launches two new spaceships?" Are you a games journalist in training?

also, "humankind"
Take it as a hypothetical question. I think most people would have heard if we'd built these kinds of things for real.
I'm sure he understood you; judging by his other posts Mr. Perot seems to enjoy picking apart tiny flaws in other peoples' writing.

OT: Ferrum and Aurum would be pretty neat.

Although I wouldn't mind a Litany of Litany's Litany.

No, not really. But say that two space-ships have now been built to explore the galaxy, and are waiting to be named. What would you call them? I realise the success of this thread is probably related to the amount of sci-fi fans on the Escapist, but I'm sure there's a few.

For me, they'd be the Roddenberry and Lucas, for obvious reasons. How about you?
Uuugh. I feel like I've been bait and switched. Change the title OP, the admins hate misleading titles and as annoyed as I am with you I'd rather you didn't get disciplined by them.

I didn't particularly think that it was misleading. But I'll err on the side of caution, and change it. Apologies if you felt misled, it genuinely was not intentional.

National Personification names would also be appropriate if the ships were built by specific countries rather than by a united Earth; Columbia or Liberty for the USA, Britannia for the UK, and so on.
Have you been playing freelancer :p
I don't know what that is, so almost certainly not

Lem and Asimov. I like Clarke, but Lem is the greatest science fiction author of all time, in my eye, so I think it would make sense to recognize him like that.

Well, one would clearly need to be named "I'm with stupid."

Or for the Vonnegut fans, how about we call one "The Whale".

Anyone? Sigh.

im thinking Hermes and Mjolnir
Hermes as a quick and agile messenger ship, to try to make peace with aliens should we come in contact with them
and should that fail, strike them down with the heavily armed hammer of the gods, Mjolnir

The 'Athens' and the 'Sparta'?

The 'Caesar' and the 'Bodecaea'?(Don't know if I've spelled that right)

*I'm taking this as if the 2 ships were the first of many military spacecraft by my US Navy, like they're the first of a 15-20 warship fleet

I'd name one: Armstrong and the other... Einstein

In joke terms: To The Backdoor and the other To The Front Door, and eventually the third one would be To The Endor.
