Why are people upset about ME3's ending. It's because they actually care about the characters and the world in ME3.
This is exactly why I'm so disappointed by the ending. The failure of the ending to provide closure to your friends' stories actually highlights the success that the series has had in building those relationships in the first place. I was so disappointed when
your crew crash lands on an uncharted planet, never to interact with galactic society again
. But at least I got to spend the day shooting empty bottles with my friend atop the citadel tower. At least I was able to be at another friend's bedside when he died. I could forgive the cut/paste endings if they had at least provided some measure of closure to the stories you really cared about.

Ayup.

To date, the Mass Effect series are the only games to elicit that degree of emotional investment from me. So many awesome characters.

It was that investment which led to the nasty backlash effect when... that happened.

In retrospect, it's rather amusing that I only picked the first game out of a bargain bin so I could see what that Fox News sexbox malarky was all about.
Huzzah! As they say, no publicity is bad publicity!

[small]y'know, except for the mass effect 3 ending controversy. I expect that there will be a handful of new sales because of it within the next few weeks, and countless sales lost over the rest of the games lifespan[/small]
