No, no, you've got it all wrong. The true measure of a horror game is trauma and nothing traumatizes more than romantic comedy. Or even worse romantic drama, ie As Good As It Gets.

We were forced to watch that in Health Ed and my eyes literally bled from the experience. Doctors said my blood pressure had spiked dramatically, combined with extreme external forces, pretty much everything that could bleed in my face did.

LIST OF MOVIES I DIDN'T FIND SCARY (just to set the bar.):
The Shining
The Sixth Sense
Jaws
Alien
Quentine
28 Days Later (ok, so this kinda freaked me out at moments, but I think we can do better.)
- The Shining was scary. End of discussion.
- The Sixth Sense is a supernatural thriller, but mostly it just sucked.
- Jaws I haven't seen, can't comment on that.
- Ok so you don't like old movies, doesn't mean they're not scary.
- I'm gonna assume you mean Quarantine here, the remake of [REC]. Watch the original.

Recommendations:
- [Rec]
- The Thing
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (original)
- Halloween (original)
- Drag me to Hell (not really scary, more comedy)
- Evil Dead I & II (not very scary again, just very funny)
- If you wanna know wether or not to watch a Saw film, watch the short over here:

While I didn't find it very "scary," Eraserhead is an interesting horror movie. Although it comes off as being much more disturbing and unsettling than frightening.

Give it a look, even if it isn't scary, it IS creepy, and a very unique flick.

Dead Silence has a pretty good atmosphere. Something about those dolls is just damn creepy.
But the twist is so obvious and the acting is so bad.

The Grudge and The Ring. I'd pick up the Japanese versions, but the American ones are OK and the American The Ring freaked me out, a lot.
Both still give me nightmares (the japanese ones, the american ones sucked)

I'm not into the horror genre so I wouldn't know what to recomment. Rumors speak of "Irréversible" having the freakiest soundtrack ever though. Maybe you should check it out?

''Martyrs''
it's a french movie. Now before you *****, try to open up to the idea that France MAY not be as faggotty as they say.
That movie is goddamn hardcore, not in the ''super-extreme-gore-fest'' kind of way (although there IS quite a load of bloody bits...) but more in the ''why-is-life-so-uncomfortable-right-now?'' one.
Could be a little hard to come by but it's seriously worth a look.

lol, helpful... You know it sucks when you love to be scared but you are immune to fear... lol

I seem to have that same problem. and for the record I saw Arachnophobia at like age 10 maybe younger and wasn't scared or creeped out, just disgusted because it could have been so much better.

Are you serious?!
That was the least scary film you could possibly imagine! I got it from the Video Ezy near me, it was under "Comedy" & not "Horror".

Silent hill was quite scary
No. No it wasn't.
Total lack of rape, demons & atmosphere just doesn't cut it for me.
Rape? Well nothing can help you there.
Demons? There were a fair few, I've never played The Silent Hill games though
Atmosphere? Watch it in the dark and with a good sound system, trust me that helps no end
I've watched it in that atmosphere with a hi def TV even and it didn't scare me at all. Speaking of, I watched it last night with a girl friend of mine and fell asleep right after Pyramid Head disappears.

How about Tremors? that movie scared the shit out of me when I was a child. and there was an episode of the X-Files that had parasitic worms that came out of your pipes and attacked you that scared me but this was all around the time I was 5 and 6. The first came out when I was 5 in 1990 and the second came out when I was 6 in 1991. Honestly, now, they don't scare me but at the time......I'm a hard one to scare.

High School Musical

Watch it, then realise that doing this made them more money in one day than you'll make in a lifetime

And then, you'll realise that despite how damn awful it is, it's still catchy

"FLY----HIN! Der's nadda star in hueavan dat wee can'd reech!"

I'm not scared of spiders... will it still be scary?
Depends, do you find the idea of spiders invading your body, reproducing and living inside you before escaping via your orifices to be frightening?

If so, yeah, go with that one.

That movie made me so angry and freaked at the same time. Disturbing.

Anyway I would recommend REC. It was the first movie in a long time to even give me a hint of fear.

they haven't made a decent horror movie for ages
Thats because there hasn't been a "horror" movie in ages. They're all just slasher flicks or torture porn. You don't feel scared, you feel repulsed XD.

I'd have to say Exorcist or Jaws.
I agree with this entire statement.

Course I went to Catholic school, despite not being baptized, so The Exorcist was freaky as hell, still kinda is all these eyars later...
Then you need to see Deliverance XD. Those dueling banjos will haunt forever!

I watched the Blair Witch Project alone in the dark, and that was fucking scary. I hate horror normally yet I want to get that on DVD solely for a movie night with myhousemates though. But it was really scary. Only thing I can think of right now anyway...

The "Ju-On: The Grudge" series (not the American remakes).

If you want to be really freaked out, and don't mind watching a TV show, check out the Doctor Who episode "Blink" (series 3, David Tennant). Watch it at night for the most profound effect. I couldn't sleep for a week.

Also, the episodes "Forest of the Dead" and "Silence of the Library" will make you never want to set foot in the dark again.
Those are some of the funnest new ones I think, Blink was mainly, "Oh no, what will happen next?" and cheap Boo! sort of moments that still got you.
Forest of the dead and silence of the library were the invisible chicken leg eating things right? I thought that was hillarious. The ones that really got me were the ones with the gas mask kid, brr, that kid just calling "Muuuuummyyyyyy" I thought that was Creepy As Hell.

Scary movies though, I never really get scared by horrors, I've been most creeped out by The Ring, Japanese version and both Japanese and American Grudges, The American Grudge 2 wasn't as bad though.
My friend screamed like a little girl after he watched the grudge and I snuck upstairs and made the noise.
