Alma, in FEAR 2. That elementary school level was fucking crazy. Especially the reception area, where it goes into evil-mode. I hit that part of the level in the middle of the night, by myself, no lights on. Scared the bajeezus out of me.

Doesn't help that my 360's ring and inner light went red at that moment.

...yes, I'm a pussy, so what?

Tonberry.

It just looks at you, while holding a butcher's knife... creeping closer... slowly... very slowly... staring at you with those innocent eyes... sometimes even tripping... but always getting closer... and then stabbing you.

Probably the Deathclaw in Fallout 3. If one catches sight of you at a low level, you are DONE.

And what about the horrific monstrosities from Killing Floor? Patriarch anybody?

FF8's True Ultimecia is pretty disturbing.

Death Claws, Imagine a level 3 wandering into the shack that contains the victory rifle, rock breakers last gas or something, and then walking out to a randomly spawned death claw, having never seen one before. Needless to say I was almost instantly ripped apart.

Scary in games is usually jumps that make you shit yourself, but when your adrenalin starts pumping you start facing the dangers with less and less fear.

Penumbra (specifically black plague episode) on the other hand will make you shit your pants and then reduce into a blubbering mess where you end up standing still for large portions of the game just because you thought your heard something... this video does not even justify the terror I get from this game even though I have completed it twice. The Tuurngait are the scariest foes I have ever faced.

You lot looking for a good few months of night terrors should grab this game... also look out for a game called amnesia to be released soon.

I have two stories to tell.

In STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, I came upon what is colloquially known as "the Bloodsucker village" in the dead of night, thinking that my low-end pump-action shotgun will be enough to handle whatever might come. Oh, no. No no no. What I thought would be an easy house-to-house clearing expedition turned into me being on the bad end of a game of "hide and seek", where I was forced to perch on the roof of a building and take shots at floating pairs of terrible glowing eyes. Then I went to the silo, and saw an injured man lying on the ground. *snarl* "OH SHIT, IT'S BEHIND-" *blam blam blam*

The second time through, I thought I'd be smart and go just after dawn. Just as I'm going up the road to the village, the skies cloud over. Cue heavy thunderstorm. Cue me whimpering profanity.

(I used to hate Snorks too, but in Call of Pripyat I was wandering the first indoor area you come across, and a Snork did a scripted leap up through a hole in the floor. I did a 90-degree spin and trap-shot the thing in midair. Every time I see them now, I remember my little moment of awesome there, and then I can't feel fear.)

Then there was Thief: Deadly Shadows. Oh, the Shalebridge Cradle. The echoes of memories of screams. The cloying, oppressive atmosphere. The Door. (If you've played it, you know what I'm talking about.) On my third playthrough, I was attempting to "ghost" (finish the mission without being detected) on Expert. I was creeping through a half-lit corridor when I realized I was just about to stumble into one of the Puppets. As fast as I can, I slam myself against the wall in the nearest corner, thinking the thing would stroll on by. Instead, it walks up right in front of me, so that its left shoulder is about four inches from my chest, and it stops. And twitches. And breathes. So close that I can see the faint impressions of its eyes and mouth in the leathery mask over its face. For ten seconds it stands there, head jerking about, teeth chattering, body shuddering... and then it finally turns and walks away.

And I realize I, the player, had been holding my breath the entire time for fear that IT WOULD HEAR ME.

Nah, he was more annoying than anything. Actually, I thought of him as comedic relief.

Poison zombies, and headcrabs in general in HL2. I don't like Giant Radscorpions or Mirelurks much in Fallout 3 either, although in both cases it's more disgust and revulsion than fear.

Spider daedra from Oblivion take the top spot though. *shudder* I have to set the difficulty down to easiest so I can kill them in a couple of hits and not have to look at them.

Redeads and Gibdos, from OoT and Majora's mask, in majora's mask was the time I had the worst of it, I was still a kid. I was running around Ikana Canyon during the day when I spotted those gibdos circling the music house, also, this was before I found that trick. I shot one with an arrow to kill it, nothing happened, so I used fire and it started to burn, I ran up to get rupees or anything then it was a redead and it started to kill me, soon the other ones joined in and I died. Scariest fucking thing for my childhood mind to bear. o-o

And while you laughed at him, I was screaming like a little girl.
