Use the search bar.

Also I don't get why so many people say Ravenholm was scary. Yeah it's a little creepy, but not scary.

The scariest level was the orphanage in Thief 3. I still have nightmares because of it

I agree I thought the preacher dude was more badass than scary.

I still think the school level in Condemned: Criminal Origins was scary. Or the store level, where you couldn't tell which mannequins were enemies until they had already started attacking you.

That level was hilarious. Father Grigori was a genius.

The scariest level is either the burned Orphanage in Thief III or any level of Fatal Frame III.

Scary the first time, after that it's target practice for the Grav Gun.

Anyway, the Apartments from FEAR. Scary game already, but somehow fighting in rundown apartments is just scary, especially since it was the one unique environment in the game.

The Orphanage level at the beginning of Painkiller Overdose freaked the hell out of me.

I'm not sure what it is about game devs. and making scary orphanages.

The last level in Condemned: Criminal Origins.
Your trapped in a small house with a murderer...still scares me.

The Shalebridge Cradle, from Thief: Deadly Shadows. If you can make it through that, you're good to go for every horror game.

Would have been scarier if they made the puppets completely immune to all damage, though. I tend to take a maxed stock of flash bombs whenever I go there, taking out the key ones, and this reduces the fear quite a bit.

The search button. Man that's a scary level.

In all seriousness though, Silent Hill. What a twisted place that is...

EDIT: Sorry about that. Welcome to the Escapist!

I think it was somewhere after Ravenholm in Half Life 2. The lights were out, except for a small lamp near the elevator. You needed to flip the switch somewhere to get the elevator down but instinctively, you know this will take ages, so you gather some necessities around. Some explosive barrels, bricks, medikits.. All you could find. Once you flipped the switch, you know they will come. Your flashlight only lasts a few minutes...

Not exactly terrifying, but the most tense scene I remember playing in any game.

The first lab in stalker, poltergeists throw stuff at you, snokrs creep around and jump on you from darkend rooms, there are flame anmomylies and a pesuado giant. Not to mention the same sequence with the oblvion lst mod where zombies start creeping around.
