I agree with the AVP2 Marine levels. Those were friggin scary.
I thought the prison level in Silent Hill 2 was probably the scariest thing i have ever experienced in a game. Especially two parts, one where your in a big room with a hangmans noose in the center and the sound effects of something running around the perimeter (but nothings there!). Secondly the corridor with a really scary sound effect in one of the prison cells, but again, nothings there.
The 'Return to the Cathedral' level in Thief: Dark Project was pretty scary too.
I keep hearing things about Shalebridge in Thief: Deadly Shadows and was thinking of buying that game for that level alone. I loved the way the Cathedral level in TDP scared you with sound and the fact you suck at combat (being a sneaky game and all) so you REALLY didn't want to be found. So if Shalebridge manages to be scarier then i think i may just poop myself.
Come to think of it, it seems games (and i guess films too) are scarier when you DONT know whats there.
