The only game that I recall I was getting a heart attack from is... Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Seriously, I don't recall any other game acting on me like that, Doom 3 is 2nd, but only for the first twenty or so minutes, after that it was a walk in the park.

The only time I am ever truly terrified while playing a videogame is when I am about to beat a high score.

Nothing in games compare to the pant-wetting sensation you get when you are so close to getting your name at the top of the leaderboard. At this point, the adrenal glands go into overdrive, causing your heart to beat so hard that it hurts. You start sweating like its going out of fashion, causing your hands to slip just when you need complete control.

Its this seat of your pants feeling that keeps me going back to some games years after I first played them.

Silent Hill 3. Imagine running around through endless tight corridors, strange monster sounds in the background, you don't know where the monsters are because your flashlight lights only half a meter in front of you, the walls are flaming, bloody, crawling with stuff, there are chopped bloody bodies at almost any corner covered by hospital sheets. It's pure hell.
It's the scariest place I've ever played in and I'll stick forks in my eyes if another game will ever make me this scared. *shudders* I had nightmares for about a week...

Half Life 2: Ravenholm is scary? Seriously? What, are you 10 year old girl? I, for one, welcome our zombie apocalypse town overlords. That's my favourite level for the sheer fact you decimate zombies. It should be noted as well that I am a huge zombie fan. This level was practically a theme park for me in all it's visceral glory, and the zombies pained cries of 'DEAR GOD PLEASE HELP MERRAAARGGHHAAAAAAA!!!' only serve to arouse me. A friend of mine (same on from Condemned actually) like a genius, installed a copy of Ep1 on his computer since I left it and a few other games I bought at his house overnight because I didn't have any way to carry them home with the rest of the stuff I had to carry, so I couldn't even my own game. Same thing with the SiN whatever it was. I own two games I can't play because my friend put them under his account. I lost all interest in Half Life after that.

Portal: If this game scares you, your presence among the vertebrate lifeforms on this planet is questionable. Right around the time GLaDOS says something along the lines of 'You will be baked, and then there will be cake', I completely understood what that was to mean and had predicted that I would have to avoid a certain death and then try to survive afterwards until the end. I was half right, and didn't actually expect to have to fight the computer herself. I lol'd at the various nodes, especially the one reciting the cake recipe.
Ravenholm: Zombies Creep me out(which is a bit more then you I can say for almost every other type of monster), so you can imagine how I feel about Ravenholm(or half the levels in thief).

Portal: I saw the "Cake" coming, but that didn't scare me. I found the atmosphere of the post "cake" levels somewhat oppressive and creepy, not unlike much of the original half life. Few other games have managed to pull that off(Sorry, FEAR, it just wasn't working out).

I was really scared by Bioshock, but I'm a wuss when it comes to 'the scaries'.

But, from what I've seen and heard, FEAR is really scary. Like, "OMGI'MGONNADIE,I'MGONNADIE.SHITSHITSHIT". I saw the infamous 'ladder' bit. Even with no sound, in the afternoon, with people near me, I was scared shitless.

Edit: Oh, and to this guy:

If you have thick skin, and aren't easily scared, then fine, great for you. But there are some people who are (I'm easily frightened), and you're being a real dick 'bout it. Everyone reacts differently to situations. Learn to empathise. May I suggest To Kill a Mockingbird?

Resistance: fall of man

more 'Oh Shit' moments than anything else, i didn't like the game, but sometimes it got quite spooky, like not knowing what a new enemy was, or the first time fighting the giant ones and the grey jacks.

that or some moments in half-life, the atmosphere was 7/10 for scary, but some moments were unbelievably unexpected and made me jump

- dumpster
- boxes in dumpster moving
- throw grenade in
- grenade pops back out
- throw grenade in again
- thing blows up
- FAST ZOMBIE ON FIRE COMES AT YOU SCREAMING AT HEAD HEIGHT GRABS YOUR FACE AND YOU DONT HAVE A WEAPON EQUIPPED AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

that was partially expected, still creepy

Silent Hill 3, mainly cos my Tv was shit and i couldn't see a damn thing unless i sat dead close, then when ever something jumped at me i basically fell off my chiar. Also, slightly off topic, but why the hell is there so many broken locks in that game? About 3/4 of all locks are broken.

I found Project Zero to be really eerie. I find that feeling of unease to be much more effective in providing an atmosphere of fear than anything jumping out at you.

The same is true for the mannequins in Condemned.

Condemed was amuseing and horrific at the same time for me, F.E.A.R. Was the only game that really scared me, and for once in a horror game it wasn't the badguys just jumping out of the shadows, it was bloody and horrific, and yet I beat it on normal in 1 night of playing, scariest part was when I'd seen Alma move at me in the air vent I unloaded bother my pistols at silver metal lol

VTM:BL ocean hotel... Already covered so moving on ...

Max payne 1 and 2 nightmare sequences

Resident evil 2. More of a jump-out-of-your-seat movement when you traveling through the police station and getting grab by zombie from a boarded up window. As well as Ada shooting at you in the garage.

Resident Evil - Directors cut (gamecbube). The only game i have screened at while playing.

A Zombie layed on the floor, and must have past him a millions times, but one time he got up and sprinted at me in a small narrow room.... Scary shit ! ! !
