SCP Containment Breach is also pretty scary.
That game scared the everloving shit out of me and I'm not entirely sure why.
Maybe it's because I read up a lot of the background stories and whatnot on the SCP website before I played it, but it certainly had me curled up into a ball.

F.E.A.R....
mostly because I was 12 when I first played it.
I thought: "Let's create the perfect atmosphere!", waited untill I was all alone, darkend every window and started playing. Even my cats scared the shit out of me when they entered my room while I was playing... good times.

I don't play many scary games but I just recently bought and played FEAR and it's expansions. Now those games could scare me when they want to.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Anyone who did that game and game to X18 knows what I mean.

Otherwise I'll vote Duke Nukem 3D for those blasted slimer things.

When the sun sets, the monsters come out, and that moment of panic when the light suddenly dips and you're far away from shelter is priceless. How many nights have I spent trapped in a tiny, oft windowless room without a bed, forced to sit there all night listening to the sounds of the monsters outside, wondering how on earth I'm going to get out safely in the morning?
This. Just watching the sun going down can be scary when you realise you've wandered too far and are entirely lost. Sometimes rather than digging in, I'll make a run for it, and oh, that sense of relief when you clamber to the top of a hill and see the lights of home base shining in the distance.

Amnesia is though, I think, the scariest game ever made. My entire experience of the game so far is starting the game, walking around for a few minutes, then hammering the Esc button and running to switch on the lights because my heart feels like its about to explode...

I swear a tiny bit of wee came out when I got to that bit. Whilst I was admiring my handiwork and taunting the dog the door and barrels exploded in my face in a hail of splinters and I screamed like a girl.

I don't know why I try to play these kinds of games, especially at night with no lights on and the headphones on. I got the worst leg cramp and almost had a heart attack when someone tapped me on the shoulder whilst I was playing Doom 3.

Project Zero.

Was playing for the first time with a friend, surround sound cranked up. The crying babies, the fleeting glances of things unknown.
Then it sprang from behind a door and we both screamed. Looked at one another and vowed never to speak of this to any of our friends. We were both 25 at the time and veterans of many horror movies. Would love a 360 sequel, shame the original wasn't backwards compatible.

SCP-087 and SCP-087-B, otherwise known as the most terrifying staircases in the history of gaming. I haven't even mustered up the courage to play SCP Containment Breach yet after playing those two, because I know 173 is an even more terrifying SCP than 087. I probably will play Containment Breach once it's done and has all the kinks ironed out of it, though, and I will definitely regret it.

Fahrenheit - seeing the dead guy in the bathroom mirror. EEK!

Such a shame the rest of the game was an atrocious mess.

I haven't played that many games people generally consider scary, but I'd say either Dead Space 2 or Metro 2033. I wouldn't say they were really that scary, but they're the scariest examples I've got.
