Yeah, they are creepy at first, then they're fun!
OT: I guess some stuff from Bioshock as well, such as the fellow in the freezer room in Fort Frolic. (Sorry, forgot his name.)

For me it was in Silent Hill 2, i was in the labyrinth and I was in this maze, I could hear this scraping noise but had no idea where it was coming from, I turn a corner and there's PH coming at me, scared the shit outta me

Scary video games usually scare me too much. I can watch scary movies, but in scary games, since I control the character, I think I'd end up just standing there the whole time waiting for it to end. So, for me, the scariest thing I can remember in a game (at least recently) is in Borderlands when you go to fight those Guardian things to get the Explosive skill mod in Dahl Headlands. When the statues turned I totally freaked out. No, really, that's the scariest I can handle.

Hmm... Bioshock has had a couple decent ones which made me jump a little bit, but I'm not sure I'd really put them as the absolute scariest... It may actually be one of those freak occurrences that happen in games--like when you'r playing L4D late into the night (in the dark, of course), and you open a door to find the horde charging towards you on the other side.

Moments when you see a Massive enemy burst through a wall on a cutscene & *BAM* your then back in control.

Makes me panic every time.

Getting lost in Silent Hill. Had nightmares that same night. Also, Silent Hill was made much creepier by San Zhi.

I'm very bad at scary moments in games. Don't cope very well with them at all.
That being said i just recently ventured into Rapture and playing Bioshock.
Stumbled upon a shotgun out in the open and when i grabbed it, the lights just shut off....had to pause the game for a second then

Oh God, I had one bobblehead left and I put off going into there for a month. I was tense the entire way through, up to the point where I didn't actually kill the guy who left the Audio Diaries (I just snuck past him).

The entire first half of Bioshock also comes to mind because, the first time I played it, I played it in a dimly lit room at midnight and it freaked me the hell out just trying to turn a corner.

F.E.A.R. There was a part where your crawling through some generic corridor and for some reason the atmosphere really got to me and this skeleton jumps out of nowhere. That was easily the scariest part for me but the cheapest scare by far.

Also in Far Cry i was sneaking through a camp and i had my volume too high and all the sudden this gun goes off of a bad guy i hadn't seen scared me senseless.

Any underground section in STALKER, particularly the first underground section.

When I first heard the Phsycic zombie and turn the corner, I shat a building's worth of bricks and immediatly quit the game. It took a long time before I found the courage to do it again, except I had the sound off :p
