You can never really know until you've actually seen enough people die in enough different ways. Real-life deaths can be just as shocking as any horror film death - well, moreso, since it's actually happening, rather than TV/film violence basically desensitizing us to even the most extreme act. So, whether it's a relative dying of cancer, seeing a stranger on the street getting shot in the head and people rushing over in concern, or watching your best friend hang himself...it's scary nonetheless.

I've never actually seen someone die, so I can't answer this question.

Death By Snu Snu

It sounds like the most fantastic thing imaginable! But then you hear the screams, and the sounds of the bones starting to break...

I could only imagine the death through immolation, the tortured screams ,
the smell of burnt meat. I think as a weapon, the psychological hit would be massive.
Makes you wonder why flamethrowers are not forbidden by the Geneva Conventions..

Never seen a person die, but I've got an answer for you that would frighten almost everyone:

Suddenly and without apparent cause.

I'd imagine being transformed slowly and painfully in a Lovecraftian horror would be pretty traumatic. If you mean real world, probably seeing someone burn to death. That's some dark shit, man.

Some one who gets shot.

I mean, if they get shot and i see it, there is a risk i can also get shot. Do not like that.

Sarin gas.

I'm a forensics student and for one of my essays and presentations, I had to choose a topic related to biology and present it as a question. I choose toxicology and picked the question "What are the pre and post mortem effects of toxins and poisons on the human body?". One thing I that I used as an example was sarin because I'd just heard about it a couple of days before relating to the Tokyo Subway attacks causing script changes to Evangelion. So I researched it and I had nightmares for about a week about being trapped in a room filling with sarin gas because of the really messed up stuff it did to the victims.

If I had to watch someone get killed by it, I'd probably vomit and be scarred for life. It was not something I could wish on my worst enemy.

Slow death by starvation. Not only do you have to watch (well say for some reason you cant help, its you and them in a room with a divider and youre being fed but they're not. whether you want them to see you be fed or not up to you) but then knowing you cant help them. I mean, this is an ordeal that is WEEKS long or even longer in some cases.

- Beheaded uncleanly, alot of mexican drug gangs do this.
- Skinned alive.
- Lingchi, an execution formerly in China where the criminal is slowly mutilated and gutted to death.
- Flaying.
- Watching someone drown.
- Suicide attempt but a failure (eg someone completely destroys their face with a shot gun but they are still alive).
- Death by Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star...

First video, gut-wrenching; second one made me feel awful like nothing I've seen before has managed. My word do I need something to cheer me up after that.

The scariest deaths are the ones that come out when you least expect them

Especially one where the person dies soon after encouraging another person

dammit....

Aum Shinrikyo has a knack for engineering fucking disturbing ways to die. In the 90's they tried to cultivate the ebola virus. Damn nasty way to die (and if you get it, the chances of survival are VERY unlikely). Violent haemorrhaging means that you'll essentially slaw away from the inside. One of the few viruses that kills you from blood loss.

I once bought a bag of scallops and was going to saute them, so I left them in the fridge for a day to thaw. The evening I was cooking them, I poured what turned out to be a lot more oil than I needed into the frying pan (I'd never sauteed before), and started dropping scallops in. It turns out the scallops weren't entirely defrosted, though, because some of the ice crystals started exploding when they hit the preheated grease, and oil droplets sprayed in all directions. It stained my kitchen walls with a thousand flecks of vegetable oil that warped the wallpaper into wet wrinkles. I can still see the scars of it.

I once saw a man put a shotgun in his mouth and pull the trigger. Basically that thing with the scallops happened, but instead of off-brand vegetable oil it was blood and brains and teeth, and it covered a much larger area. He forgot to put his suicide note in a drawer, so the top page was pretty much ruined. It was like someone had spilled a bowl of cereal on it except that wasn't cereal.

There are probably scarier deaths to witness, but that one is kind of a defining line for me.

What do you think it is?

One side of their skull breaking open, followed by a bang a second later, from half a mile away?

A sudden collapse, with no breath, pulse, or explanation when you go to check?

Perhaps something less sudden, such as a debilitating illness that might already be incubating inside your own body?

Also why do you think it's scary?

What was the scariest death of another person you've ever seen? (can be fictional).

For me, it was probably in Supernatural, when a guy was magically compelled to drink a bottle of bleach.
I guess I'm particularly nervous about sickness, especially anaemia, vomiting, and loss of blood into bladder/gut/throat.
As a biology enthusiast, I love all those clever bodily systems working together beautifully, so the corruption of them into weapons against each other is horrifying.

Another example is in Metro 2033, when Artyoms' gas mask breaks above ground, (not scripted), and he dies coughing and choking, unable to find a new one as he panics.
I felt a pang of guilt when, later in the game, I did it to an enemy, sure he was one of the Nazis' soldiers, but he was still a fellow human being, which is emphasised when there are post-apocalyptic monsters everywhere, and he might not have even been a Nazi.
PAVI, LUIGI!

OT: Well, I wouldn't like to be the target of a repo man. Have you seen that movie?

Why would I have a picture of Pavi and Luigi if I hadn't seen the movie and loved their duet?

You're the second person I've seen comment on it, I don't see anyone responding to profile pictures of Chrysalis, Link, Gandulf, Sonic, or the Prick Who Gets Slapped (I never learned his actual name, just that he was a snotty kid who got the butchers' boy executed.) Child abuse had never before been such an awesome moment.

Not that I mind, I am an exhibitionist after all.

If I was in debt to Gene Co, I would get myself a vial of Zydrate and save it just in case I fail to make my repayments.
