Hey guys, some of you might think this is a bit of a peculiar place to ask but I'm not really a regular on any other forums and my friends can't help me with this one.

I have a rather nasty scar on my left arm, I may as well tell you that it was done by an ex boyfriend who attacked me with a knife. It's been there about 3 years now and at the time I went into so much shock I locked myself away and never got it stitched or anything.
It's still massive, and it sticks out, you can tell it was never treated.

I was wondering if any of you have ever had treatment to remove a scar, or a tattoo as I hear the process is quite similar?
What was the pain like, how much did it set you back etc?
Adding discussion value maybe you can tell me how some of you got your nastiest scars! x

I don't know, I like my scars. I can only assume a lot.
A lot of people I know also have scars, but have kept them and like the stories attached.

I have a scar over the tip of my left index finger, where I cut the tip off.
I have one on my head from a fight.
I have another on my right palm where, as a kid, I discovered glass is sharp.
I also have scarred veins on my arms (Yea, track marks basically) from medical injections.

As far as i'm aware, the process to remove tattoos and scars are vastly different. Scar tissue, as i understand it, cannot grow back to skin. Tattoos are either removed by surgically removing them or blasting them with lasers to de-construct the pigments.

If you've got a scar, you're stuck with a scar.

The only scars i have are on my head. one looks like a small bindi, from chickenpox or something. the other is where i fell and cracked my head on a plant pot. the plant pot came out worse.

Some of my family members swear by this Edgar Casey creme for removing scars, never used it myself. Still have plenty of scars from surgeries though.

I've got two rather large and noticeable scars on my right forearm from when I was playing football, me and someone else both jumped to get a pass and I landed on my forearm, perpendicular to the tennis court we were playing on. And he landed on me :X
The surgery to set the bones left a large scar at the skin covering the radius and a smaller one covering the ulna.
I'd rather not get rid of my scars, it's one of those things that makes you feel a bit special in a way. Looking it up, laser scar removal seems to cost an average of $350 per hour, and how many hours must very depending on how big the scar is.

I am afraid ive never attempted to remove any of my scars, though the best one I have is from impaling my leg on a pole of a climbing frame, old school metal one, when I was about 12 years old. Went down to my bone, narrowly missing an artery, luckily. Either way 24 stitches later and I have a lovely scar on my leg.

One of my friends tried to get rid of a scar by cutting the skin tissue open again and rubbing salt on it to prevent it to grow back to fast, which he believed formed the scar.
Well, actually he just wanted to cut it open, the salt was my idea.

The laser scar removal is as I recall very costly with a lot of possible complications, overall I personaly do not think it worth it. They do it under local anesthesia as far as I know, I don't think it would be too painful but as I say the cost would be the real killer.

The worst scar I have is one under my right eye on the cheek, although I would never dream of removing it since I am so used to it, I would miss it. Had it since I was one or two-ish. breaking window + small child = glass shard to the face ;s

OMG! What The Actual Eff? SALT?!

OT: I have a scar on my hip from when I fell off a wall and the concrete slab fell on me.
A scar on my shin from crashing my bike and the pedal jamming into my leg.
A scar on my left 4th finger (ring finger) from my dad stabbing me with a scalpel.
A scar under my right eyebrow from smacking my face on to my bedside table corner one night (amazingly I went straight back to sleep, not realising I was bleeding)
And, in total, around 100 tiny scars on both hands, mainly fingers, from cat scratches, cut, scrapes and such.

What can I say, I scar easily.

Well, my friend had a scar that was pretty nasty, but he went to the doctor and got it fixed up. I'm not sure of the details, but I'm pretty sure it's a pretty minor surgery.

As for scars of my own, I don't have anything impressive. I do have a small one of my chest, however, from a fireworks incident. My friends and I were pretty stoned, and we tried shooting fireworks while holding them in our hands. I had one that had a little plastic spike in the bottom that's supposed to be stuck in the ground. but when it went off, the spike shot backwards right at my chest, and cut me.

Scars look cool on anybody, don't worry about it. You can just tell your next boyfriend that you don't take crap and say "this is what I got, you don't want to know what he looks like now"

You can get some pretty cheap stuff called Bio-oil or Bio-gel (something like that) that fades stretch marks and stuff.

If there's any raise in the scar from the arm it won't affect that, but it'll fade it back to your skin tone.

If you really want to get rid of it (not even sure that you can) go to your GP first.

:( Sorry to hear that.
Surely an operation would be free on the NHS? You should have got your ex done for GBH too.
I don't know anything about them. You might need a skin graft or something.
As for me, no scars. There's some marks on my back from where my mum dropped the iron on me when I was younger though.
