You cannot grasp the true nature of Giygas' attack!
The thought of that is rather unsettling, to say the least. I kinda wish I hadn't had that fight's ending spoiled before I got around to playing, though. It would've been EPIC instead of just being awesome.
Try terrifying more than epic.
It gets even worse when you find out where the inspiration for this battle came from.
Ah yes....THAT film the creator saw when he was a kid.
Didn't he use lines from the film for Giygas' words in battle?

As for something scary that shouldn't have scared me....Pyron from Darkstalkers scared the shit out of me as a kid.
It was not a rape scene in a film. The game creator misinterpreted what he saw as a child.

Yeah, GLaDOS's voice did make me jump once or twice, especially when theres no warning.

Ever since I was a kid, I've always been afraid of (or at least unsettled by) certain things in Super Mario World. For instance, whenever you find the key and take it to the keyhole, and the keyhole suddenly gets bigger and shrinks back down. It's always scared me for some reason, even to this day.

Pretty sure GLaDOS is a chick.

I remember back in resi 1, right at the start with those f***ing dogs, in the Saturn version (not sure if it's in all of them) if you try to leave the mansion you get a rendered animation of a dog sticking it's head in and barking at you, then when you walk down that damned corridor, still makes me jump.

Addendum: as a side note I should say that my deep seated fear from the resident evil series comes from a prank my step-dad played when I was much younger. being probably too young to play the first one when it was new he decided to burst into my room after a long session with thins damned mask on. Scared me half to death.

Still can't finish that game.

Playing Haze in the middle of the night. A random face just pops up and screams "JUST AN ANIMAL!" That gave me a good jolt. Who's to know if the developers planned to have that scare you or not, but all I know is that it was Really out of place.

The fact that Kratos wears a skirt. I know we are not talking about characters but Kratos with out a skirt would put me at peace. But to appease the thread, the Little Sisters after you return them to normal. They always wave. ALWAYS.
But they have those large, bulging eye that they stare at you with...so friendly and grateful...and unblinking...and hollow... o_O

When I was a kid playing Starcraft, I was always afraid of the monsters in the shadows (the fog of war). Just seeing a man explode and then the fog of war cover where he was, was freaky when I was still a kid.

MGS2: Near the ending, when the A.I. (Colonel Roy Campbell
), start messing up, and sending you weird messages.
That was one of the most scariest things I had ever experienced.

Crysis.

I accidently drove a jeep off into the ocean and looked down and nearly shit myself.

I cannot !@#$ing STAND not being able to see the bottom of the water, and the black void I saw then nearly stopped my heart. Needless to say I got out of there pretty damn fast.
I know a couple other people that have that same problem with a lot of games that involve water.

Anyway, for me, it's when I try to not fall for the scripted events, like "oh, a big open room...I'm gonna go around the side so the thing that will inevitably come out of the middle won't touch me..."

And then, like, something simple like an enemy busting through a wall happens, and if I went into the middle of the room, it would have just been a small thing, sort of far away, but since I went around the outside, it's RIGHT NEXT TO ME and I jump. :(

More of a creep-out than a scare, but Suikoden 3.

There's a murder mystery segment after finding a duckman (being serious those who haven't played) killed and horribly mutilated. The body twisted and mangled and left in an oddly bloodless heap on the floor.

Turns out he was just doing yoga and wasn't dead. He gets up with a hideous snapping and popping of bones that took me forever to get out of my head.

I think any point in a gmae where you are trapped with an unkillable enemy that can kill you in one hit. Case in point the giant dinosaur in that King Kong game, desperatley trying to avoid those jaws.
Also the locust beserker in Gears of War.
Then there's that Hunter in Dead Space whom most of the time you can only struggle to avoid.

Also quite scary is in Saint's Row 2 (before the patch) where I went to do a mission and was always nervous because I knew that there was a random chance the game would just freeze mid mission and make me have to start over.

Finally I hate time limits, they make me panic like a rabbit.

In fallout 3, I was going to be a Christ-like adventurer, so I turned my perception all the way down, it is, the most, frightening thing to happen when a Deathclaw whose existence was previously unknown shows up outta nowhere and makes swishing noises right behind you.

Also the escape the vault as a baby glitch, if you die as a baby, then you're all stretched out like silly putty, and that's... disturbing, if not hilarious.
x.x you just had to remind me!? dear god it was like a dead alien....googoo gahgah..*****.

Nothing. when you see a monster it may scare you but only once. Nothing can scare you for the entire game.
eg: main character walking down a street with eerie music.

path 1) monsters jump out (you jump) then you have fun blasting their heads off.
you go into a room (still shooting) grab the ammo. you hardly notice a object fall near you
you get to the chopper and shoot a few monsters and then get on. MISSION END

path 2) a few shadows flicker (you jump) you continue along and find a door with blood on and a strange noise on the other side (you save and get your most powerful gun out)just to find it was a rust hinge creaking. you loot the room (the music dies down so you forget the scary bit)and as your leaving the room a box/object drops down with a loud screech/bang (you S##T your self). you start to move slowly to the chopper looking back down the street you see a shadow moving closer round the corner (dont see the monster) you leg it for the chopper lobbing nades behind you. you scream at the chopper to go faster. MISSION END
