Scary Xbox 360 games...

It's october, I feel like playing some horror games, any suggestions?

I've played...
Dead Rising 1+2 (Is off the record worth it)
Dead Island (well, I own it anyway)
Dead Space (Fantastic by the way, I just picked up 2)
Left 4 Dead 1+2 (Do these even still have a player base?)

Are the Silent Hill games any good? Resident Evil? Alan Wake?

The only game I ever really felt scared playing was the first Dead Rising, and it was less fear and more of just anxiety of that fucking clock.

Alan Wake isn't that scary, but it is worth your time.

I'd suggest tracking down copies of Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot.

If you've never played ANY Resident Evil games, do yourself a favor and play anything from 1 to 4. 4 is by far the best actual game among them, but I still love 2 and 3 for still keeping to a relatively scary game. Bonus points to Revelations as well. It's an episodic game, but they're all out now and it's still WAY better than 5 or 6. (Admittedly, 5 is a pretty meh game, but makes for a good co-op couch game if you've got a buddy to play with).

Dead Space starts out great in the first one. 2's a pretty okay one as well, though it really didn't quite stick as well with me over the years. Just know that if you do ever go into 3, go into it with really low expectations. They changed up a lot of the mechanics and atmosphere, and none of it was for the better in my books.

Apparently Silent Hill 2 is out on Xbox 360 too? I'd suggest getting that too if you're looking for one of the old school horror classics. I remember there being a big stink about the graphic changes in the HD version though, about how all the fog disappeared or something like that.

So...when are you planning on playing some horror games, because nothing you mentioned is actually horror?

Dead Rising 1 and 2 are silly, not scary, and left 4 dead 1 and 2 are multiplayer games, which automatically takes them out of the realm of horror. Dead Space is kind of horror, but even that I would classify as more action adventure since you carry enough weapons and ammo to kill the French army.

If you want some horror games play Condemned 1, Call of Cthulhu (it's an xbox original game but I think it's compatible with the xbox 360), F.E.A.R., Fatal Frame (another Xbox original game that I think is compatible with the xbox 360), and of course the king daddy of horror games, Silent Hill 2.

Seriously, it's like that and the inevitable SH2 for tense games. I don't feel like it's really been matched since it came out, and it was a launch title. That's impressive.

Condemned 2...well you probably know about it already. There are some great moments in that game, but it falls apart. Definitely worth getting for those moments, though. The hand to hand combat is wonderfully visceral. Not a fan of how they changed Rosa's (the support character) appearance, though, but that's not relevant.

The 360/PS3 Silent Hills...well, I've watched Let's Plays. Homecoming looks bloody awful; Downpour had some interesting ideas but shoddy execution

I personally really didn't like Dead Space, or rather it didn't resonate with me at all. I 'unno, I felt like I should be able to avoid stuff if I wanted to.

They changed the VAs as well. Whether or not they're good, I don't know, but the fog *is* a pretty big deal.

Alan Wake isn't really a horror game; but if you like Steven King and the Twilight Zone it's worth a look. For such a mechanically mediocre game, I felt it had a lot of charm. The fear doesn't come from anything about the darkness or anything, if it comes at all, it comes from 'Oh shit! A bulldozer!"

Basically, ignore the console versions of Left 4 Dead, between EA distributing and Valve's general apathy for things that aren't PCs they're dead as a dead thing in deadsville. Player numbers on Steam are pretty healthy though.

FEAR is quite good for jump scares, until you figure out that you're Batman meets the Flash and you're armed.

Well as suggested earlier, Alan Wake is a pretty good game to get, although it won't be all that terrifying. I actually would not recommend getting the Silent Hill HD Collection, especially since you're only interested in the Xbox 360 version. There's been more problems on that version of the game than on the PS3 version, and I don't think it's even up to date with the patches. There's a lot of sound glitches, texture glitches, and the developers of this version of the game screwed around with a lot of the choices the original developers made, which actually took away from the quality of the games. Also, the majority of the new voice actors just do a terrible job. SH3's new voice actors in particular just ruin the game ._.

That being said, SH2 is also available for the original Xbox, and should run on the Xbox 360. That version of the game is vastly superior compared to the HD Collection. The only problem you might encounter is some weird texture glitch that makes the floor panels and walls white and shiny (although I actually found it kind of unnerving >.>). SH3 however isn't available, so unless you have a PS2 or are able to play it on your PC, you're probably going to have to miss that one out.

Other suggestions would be Condemned: Criminal Origins, Condemned 2, Fatal Frame, and Fatal Frame 2. The 2 Fatal Frame games are on the original Xbox, and I'm guessing in Fatal Frame 2's case it's a little rare, since it is the director's cut of the game.

Eh on the Silent Hill games. I played 1-4, Homecoming and Downpour...and eh? Not that scary most of the time; they're mostly just annoying with bad dialogue, characters and gameplay. You have to REALLY suspend your disbelief to be scared at a Silent Hill game. Maybe its because the characters are so absurd and dorky, that I just don't feel invested in what happens to them. Although of all of them, Silent Hill 3 would be my go to. I think its the fact you're a scared teenage girl rather than a regular guy or even a soldier. Adds something. Plus the whole game is one long analogy for rape/pregnancy, which makes certain scenes unsettling.

Resident Evil games are more of the same honestly. Most of the fear comes from purposefully bad gameplay, apparently designed to make combat more hectic and whatnot. But the combat isn't avoidable; you HAVE to do it. So it just a crutch, one that's been shoved up your ass.
I vaguely remember Resident Evil: Zero being scary, but I can't remember why. Something about zombie monkeys and only have grenade launcher ammo...
