They use microwaves to broadcast, the same as every wireless communication device on the planet. Is the school also planning on getting rid of all it's AM/FM radios?
You do know that if the gain on a Microwave transmitter is turned up it can kill a person?

OP: The point most critics of this 'deadly airwaves' controvosy is that scientists have NO idea what the long term effects are to adults or children.

This is the same argument as power lines over schools.

All our brains do is transport electrical impulses to other parts of itself to allow us to live. We know that transmitting data through various bands of transmittal can have wierd effects. Just because we aren't turned into gibbering idiots instantly doesnt mean something long term and bad could not happen. Course this goes the other way too. The point is that before we start getting HEAVILY DEPENDANT on this technology we should know the long term effects first.

I am neither for or against. But I am against idiots who cant think for themselves and blindly follow the group for their opinions. But I am also against hyper sensitive hippy types styfling technological advancement without any sort of science to back it up.

Hahaha, perfect example of how kids are running rings around the adults. It's a get out of school free card.

OT: I have Wi-Fi around for most of the day and I've never gotten sick apart from the occasional cold. Maybe its because my skull is made of awesome and therefore is impenetrable to Wi-Fi.

Health Critic France Gelinas added, "Within a few months of Wi-Fi being installed, stories start coming forward with kids complaining about headaches, neurological effects, loss of balance and problems with fine motor skills. There is enough anecdotal evidence from parents that this is worth looking into."
Anecdotal? Seriously? When people don't bother to use the proper words to stress what they are trying to say, they are only making themselves sound as dumb as they really are.
They are using it correctly. Now who looks dumb?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdote - see anecdotal evidence.

Regardless, there is a reason anecdotal evidence is not considered part of scientific theory.

My middle school teachers gave me headaches and cause emotional damage, can we get rid of them?

Really, nothing can be said towards this.

It's so facepalm worthy that it can't even be reasonably discussed.

Well isn't 100 years of no symptoms not enough for you? I really hate the arguement "Scientists don't know what the LONG TERM effects will be" because most of the time, yeah, they HAVE looked at them. It the waves do not effect the operation of cells, cell processes, or the transmission of electrical impulses within our body (which can all be tested) then they have no side effects, I consider it that simple. Our bodies may be complex but something like Wifi would effect it at a fundemental level so I doubt only some people would get severe migranes while the rest are completely fine.

This is in the listening area of the radio station I work at.
We've been running this story on our news cast, and I think it's ridiculous.
Seems more like sensationalism then a genuine health problem.
EHS is a condition in which a person's body reacts to Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) exposure with the appearance of philological sensations and phenomena's. In today's world about 10% are EHS but only 3% know that they are. Our view and Opinion on EHS (based on our own knowledge and experience with EHS persons) is that EHS is a physical condition usually caused by a long term exposure to high levels (within today standards) of Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) that over couple of months that eventually caused the body to lose its strength and made it vulnerable to even very low levels of EMR.

EHS is partiality recognized by the medical and scientific communities, however currently there is no consensus regarding the causes of EHS.

Not every headache is because of EHS and on the other hand EHS is not the only physical problem and condition that EMR causes.

"OMIIIGOSH DERP. I WANT TIEM OFF SKOOLZ. I FEEL ILL MAM."

"LOL WUT. GO TO SCHOLLZ"

"NO MA, TEH SKILLZ WYE FIE IS MAKIN ME ILLZ IM SUPA SERIAL"

"DERP. IMMMA GET DAT BANNEDEDED RATHER THAN see my child is quite obviously pulling a fast one or it's flu season. And of course, rather that do any of my own research WHY PHI IS BADD DUUUR."

My god, the world really is getting stupider. I'm sick and tried of this level of retardation.

EDIT: Upon reading that, the above line looked like I'm calling the quoted below me a retard. I'm not, here's the line. What's below it is no longer my say but rather discussion.

Wi-Fi utilises microwave radiation to send signals, you know the same stuff thats cooks your pizza pockets in a microwave. It has been know to cause cancer and other illnesses, personally after prolonged exposer to Wi-Fi i get migranes, sometimes these can be serious other times they are just a nuicence; on another note because wi-fi and microwave radiation is becoming more populer more and more people (including children) are having migranes and other possibly dangerous health issues.
Correlation does not make facts. It's correlated that the number of earthquakes over the years has increased while the number of pirates has decreased.

What kind of prolonged exposure are you talking about? Being inside all day? Having your head next to the transmitter?

I'm not being a dick to you here, I'd actually really like to know the answers to those questions. It's just that mobile phones also use these microwaves.

You know another way kids get sick at school? By being stuffed in rooms full of their germ-infested classmates. I hope that was considered, too.
DING DING DING! I used to get sick all the time in school, but guess what? Ever since I graduated two years ago, I haven't been sick once. Maybe a headcold or two, but I haven't been bedridden since then.

Come on, if Wi-Fi caused sickness, we would have stopped using it years ago.

Wait, isn't it flu season?

That's like saying "We installed the wireless in November, and then it snowed! The wireless controls the weather!"

I bet half those kids (if not more) aren't even sick.
You can't get radiation sickness via WiFi.

I didn't need to check wikipedia but I did anyway "The majority of provocation trials to date have found that self-described sufferers of electromagnetic hypersensitivity are unable to distinguish between exposure to real and sham electromagnetic fields,[2][3] and it is not recognized as a medical condition by the medical or scientific communities."
Unless these people have super power or are biologically different to every other human being they cannot feel it everyone else would... or atleast would show physical reactions to exposure.
