I'm a big fan of sci-fi RPG's in the mold of Mass Effect and KotOR series, but I don't know a lot of games like this. It seems to me that 4/5 RPG's that gets made are fantasy (rough estimate I have no data to support this). This annoys me but what am I gonna do?

I am going to ask you guys if you know any good RPG's/action games with RPG elements or just good games that are sci-fi as in Star Trek/Star Wars/Mass Effect levels of futuristic.

Thank you for your time.

Dead Space has some RPG elements (upgrades for suits/weapons, loot, spells (telekinesis, stasis))

Hmm... I can't think of any others at the moment.

There is always the old favourites System Shock 2 and the Deus Ex games. However I'm not sure if its consoles or PCs that you are using.

PC, PS3 and all the nintendo handhelds.

I tried the new Deus Ex and it was okay, above average.

I thought about trying System Shock 2 but I'm really not into horror, and I hear it's kinda scary, so I'm on the fence about it.

Clearly this thread is just screaming out for some Sentinel Worlds: Future Magic.

There really aren't a lot of (modern) sci-fi RPGS, to be honest. You could dabble on the MMO side of things with stuff like TOR, ST:O, or EVE, but I suspect you want more of a story driven experience. In which case only TOR really applies, and loosely at that.

Deus Ex (original and Human Revolution)
FTL
System Shock 2
Fallout series I guess...

The new Shadowrun returns in gonna be a cyberpunk RPG; there's also Cyberpunk 2077. There's also non-RPG games that have RPG elements in them like Hard Reset or Dead Space. Starcraft 2 and XCOM enemy unknown are worth a look at. There's also a myriad of sci-fi(ish) JRPGs, but none that I can really recommend.

Yhea I have no idea where I'd find that game, apperently it's from the 80's.

And I tried TOR, I bought it on launch day, played it for about a week and haven't touched it since. It depressed me immensely.

But thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

I can't think of many modern ones, but from what I've played of it, Anachronox is pretty good. It is much more like a JRPG in terms of design in spite of being developed in the west, however. It doesn't really have a JRPG-y plot (at least not so far, I'm not that far into the game) but you play as a pre-made character with his own history and personality and it uses a very JRPG-like turn based battle system. I hear Septerra Core is similar in that respect, but I've never played it. Both of these are on GOG.

Star Control 2 isn't quite an RPG, but has strong RPG elements and some call it the spiritual predecessor to Mass Effect. There's a freeware source port called The Ur-Quan Masters and it's also available on GOG.

FTL: Faster Than Light might be up your alley, too. It manages the impressive feat of making you care dearly about your crew's lives despite the fact that they don't have actual personalities. Be warned, though, it has permadeath. If you die you have to start the game over again. IMO, this just makes it better but your mileage may vary. It is randomly generated, so it isn't like you'll doing the same things in the same order over and over again. It's on both GOG and Steam.

Phantasy Star IV is one of my favourite JRPGs. It's on the Megadrive, but is also available on Steam and on consoles in the Megadrive collection. It may also be on PSN/XBL but I don't know.

Technically Borderlands is a Sci-Fi RPG, but you'd probably be best off having good friends whom all play at a similar pace as you/ be prepared to have some missions be extremely difficult due to the single player being more difficult if choosing any other class other than the Commando (both games) before getting it. Hmm, other than that I can't think of any other games that haven't already been mentioned.

Fallout series is futuristic, but in that distopian future way, not star trek or star wars way.
