fuck science, where are all the flying cars, aliens, and cyborgs you promised me? and what about long distant space travel, a cure for male pattern baldness, anti-aging pills and the colonization of other planets. as far as i can see science needs to shut the fuck up and get to work. it's like a 40 year old man, jobless and living in his parents basement. every day science is like I'm going to get a big boy job and move out, but then all it does is eat hot pockets and play w.o.w.. where the fuck is my fucking holodeck Mr.Science. science with all your white coats, beakers, and "theories" i have yet to see a hoover-board under my feet so chop chop ************ its 2010, my car still runs on gasoline, and we know more about whats on the surface of the moon than what exists in the deepest parts of our own oceans.
To be honest, it's not science that lied to you, it was fiction writers with no grasp on the realities of hard science just making crap up.

Meanwhile we did invent the plane, the car, created fuel for the car and the plane went to the moon, cured a shitload of diseases, invented the television, the internet (wich I know you use) and lost of other stuff.

So be nice to science,

I used love science. Then I did a course in it.

Fuck you Schroedinger.
I'ts Schrödinger, but I know what you mean. Quantum mechanics aren't my favorite subject either.

But you draw in science, but would you really count Art as a science?
If you would, then shut up and let me win this. I need it!
I have to agree: Mere production and consumption of art isn't science. But well-done research in its history, its methods and its content can be counted as science.
I prefer natural science, especially maths and physics.

By the way: Quantum mechanics may be a bit weird (everything sometimes acts like a particel, sometimes like waves, depending on our way of observing), but science also means doing research in the unusual and going further than our knowledge or imagination reaches.

I would say math isn't science but it is pretty much a requirement for any field of science so...
XKCD says it is:

I love XKCD and that's a good one (though it disheartens me to see my field is not represented). Also find it funny because I have a physicist friend and that's pretty much how he acts lol.
Anyways, you're right and I am proven wrong

What field are you in?

Computer science, not sure where that would be on that line...
It's cross discipline depending on what specific group you're in. Electronics is a physics based science if I recall correctly, but is heavily mathematically based.

CS is applied mathematics. If you just program, and work on software, that is where you are.

If you actually get into hardware, you are more in the Physics area.

Fellow Escapists

Being a gamers website, a lot of the escapist news is somewhat geeky (in the broadest most positive sense of the word) and a lot of it is sience related. In the past the escapist even featured a weekly article called science.
Yet when i searched the Escapist communityI couldn't find any science related user group anywhere.

This is why I created a brand new science user group. So my fellow Ecapists my question to you is do you have an interest in science? And if you do would you consider joining this glorious new user group?

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Science
Ah, I love science, I will be glad to join.

Yeah it depends heavily on what specific field you're in. I could get an IT job and need 0 physics and math knowledge or I could get a research job that's mostly applied physics and any number of things in between. So I guess you can't really place computer science as a whole.

Well, as of right now I don't do anything because I can't find a job.

Does that mean you are open to all theories?
or are you just closed shut when someone mentions Darwin.
