As a player of pen and paper role-playing games, I can say (and my entire role-playing group agree) that my dice hate me when I am in combat. If I need to roll more than say 8 on a 20 sided dice, I nearly jump for joy when I roll higher than 4.

When I am running the game, my dice seem to appreciate me more. Kind of annoying as I want to get out of the DM chair.
I know that feeling. Worst night for me was rolling 7 times in a row a 1 on the D20(i stopped counting after that)statistically almost impossible (the group found it impressive) was less good for my character since a few rolls were for for certain saves >.<

Training your poke's to perfection with perfect EV, IV, Nature and move through chain-breeding takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.

That's why i switched to the Pokemon simulator <.<

One more thing about the Firelance, before I even knew about it, I once found a line of Alien Blaster cartridges in the Wasteland, if only I'd followed it to the end! (facepalm)

I'm generally a calm person and it takes a lot to annoy me but there's one thing in games that REALLY pisses me off, random chance. I'll give some examples:

I had Pokemon Blue all those years ago but it broke a few months ago so I bought LeafGreen. One of the causes of annoyance is is the Nature of a pokemon. There are 25 natures and each one will increase a stat by 10% and decrease a stat by 10%. In order to put that to my advantage I look at what moves my pokemon will have and then try to catch one with the best Nature, like Hypno has all special attacks so i get one that is Modest which increases special attack by 10% and decreases attack by 10%. seeing as he has no physical attacks, it doesn't matter that he has decreased attack. HOWEVER, which Nature a pokemon has is down to random chance so there is a 1/25 chance that the caught Hypno will be Modest. BUT, because the game hates me I get all other natures, some of the i've had 4 times, with no Modest. I'm currently trying to get a Modest Vulpix, it has a 20% appearance rate BUT I can have 10+ battles without seeing a Vulpix, then when I catch it I haveget bitched about with the Nature and it usually takes AGES. sure, I could just catch one and whatever Nature it has I just go with but I'd rather have the boost where it is needed.

The other example is when i was playing Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, there was a weapon i wanted that was the rare drop from an enemy. Given the drop rate of the item and the number of the enemy fought in the quest, it would take an average of 35 runs to get the weapon. 50+ runs later and it STILL hasn't dropped. other rare items dropped 3 or 4 times but the one i actually wanted? NO! i ended up trading with someone to get the weapon. i don't mind having to do a few more runs than the average but when you do LOADS more runs and still nothing? the game's taking the piss.
Well, in both scenarios that you described, having an ability/attack that allows you to distinguish between natures/held items would be the obvious solution.

I know that in Pokemon, certain Pokemon have an ability that allows you to see the item a Pokemon is holding, an attack that allows you to switch or copy abilities (if you want to know a Pokemon's ability), and attacks that allow to you steal items and change abilities.

I'm not sure if there is anything yet that affects natures. I feel like it was just an indicator that was added to the franchise to take away some of the mysteries of why Pokemon A has different stats compared to Pokemon B, while both are the same Pokemon and level.

TL;DR, when something I want is achieved through random chance it will take longer than it should do because games hate me.

Anyone else have that happen?
Okay ,'let me impart some pokemon breeder knowledge , if you mate a pokemon with a ditto at the day care , the pokemon will almost always have the same nature as the ditto . So if you have a modest ditto and a jolly drowzee , when the egg hatches more often than not it will hatch as a modest drowzee .

Whats tedious is actually catching the ditto nature you do want , but once yOu do , youcan get almost any pokemon ( thats breedable ) to have any nature you want .

Breeder knowledge number two , ditto counts as the female . So what i said above applies to the female versions of pokemon . Say you have a jolly female pigey and you mate it with a male serious pidgey , the egg when it hatches is most likely to be jolly .

Now if you want to know more. Let's talk about IV . The IV (0-31 ) is based on the characteristic . Say i want my gengar to have a special attack IV of 30-31 , i would want his characteristic to be mischivous ( this means that his highest IV is in sp attack ) . How would i go along breeding a pokemon and having his characteristic being mischivous? Same thing as with nature ( remember the pokemon that hatchs keeps the females nature) but with the male. What this means is , if i have a female modest abra that is quick to anger and i mate her with a adamant male abra that is mischivous , the chances that the egt hatches into a modest abra this is michivous is VERY high . This would mean your new abra has a 10% boost to sp atk , a 10% reduction in attack , and has an IV of 30-31 in sp attack. Meaning you are well on your way to have the highest possible sp atk on your abra ( and eventually alakazam ).

I won't get into EV training because that has less to do with actuall breeding .

Have fun hopes this helps, if you have any questions let me know.

or instead of breeding 25+ vulpix to get a modest one

-find a male pokemon in your box with modest nature
-give it an everstone (everstones give a 50% chance for the baby pokemon to inherit it's father's nature)
-if it can't breed with vulpix, find a pokemon it can breed with that can
[link]http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Field_%28egg_group%29 [/link]
look in the "in this and another egg group" section, the field egg group is really easy to interbreed with because so many other egg groups cross with it.
-when you have something that has a modest nature and can breed with vulpix, you should be able to get a modest vulpix very quickly.

"time" in pokemon passes based on the amount of steps you take, so to make breeding very fast, just do a few laps around the daycare on your bike

OT:

After doing plenty of item farming myself on both WOW and Runescape, I can say I truly feel your pain >.<

OT: I detest enemies with instant death attacks. The thing that I dislike most in the Persona games is the fact that enemies get Hama and Mudo skills. It wouldn't be so bad if your party members wouldn't eat up your Homunculi when they're hit with one, or if it wasn't an instant game over if the main character dies. The same goes for the final boss of Final Fantasy XIII, another game where you lose if your main character dies. Sure, you can try to avoid it with an accessory, but there's still a chance of it killing you instantly. You can't believe how many times I've died like that.
Speaking of Persona... In Persona 3, theres this item that has a random chance of spawning in 7 sequential floors. You need it for a request Elizabeth gives you. Its supposed to be around a 10-20% chance of spawning. I played through those 7 floors over and over for 5 HOURS and never found it.

Trying to assassinate a level 1 diplomat with a level 9 assassin in TW:Medieval 2.
95% chance of success you say? Excellent! *Assassinate*
Mission failed!
*reload*
Mission failed!
*reload*
Mission failed, your assassin was killed!
*reload*
Repeat for 15 more times.
Give up and try again next turn.

I really think that game has hidden modifiers for spying/assassination/burn heretic missions.

Why are you trying to get vulpix? vulpix is a lackluster fire type and especially terrible in third generation before the physical/special move split. I could understand if you wanted a drought ninetales for generation five competitive play but third?
i will be evolving it into a Ninetails once Vulpix has learned Flamethrower. I've had Ninetails as my fire pokemon since Blue and it's always been great
Oh nostalgia/tradition. I understand I do it to sometimes. I assume you aren't competitive playing then so not sure why you're min/maxing
pretty much is tradition, plus it's a great looking pokemon. i'm not going for max stats but any little boost to their stats is good, especially when doing the Elite 4 after completing the Sevii Islands

I had a moment last night played Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones downloaded onto my 3DS.

My character had a 90% hit chance, and attacked twice. Both missed.
I was going to say something along these lines. Seems like for me 70% means 0% and for enemies 30% means 100%. Then again I can't really complain since I've killed two bosses in a row thus far with critical hits that had a 6% chance.

The God of chance bullshit hates me on Assassin's Creed. You know those assassin recruit training missions where you send them off to various places to level them up?

Yeah, I HAVE to make the odds of succeess 100% before I send anyone anywhere because even if it's 99% odds are the mission will fail and that assassin will die.

This thread reminds me why I stopped playing WoW all those years ago. I can't stand farming enemies for items if there is no challenge involved, so when you're stood in one little area for 3 hours killing wind elementals so that you can upgrade your profession skill, and you're 20 levels higher than them... it gets tedious. Obviously though, there were more reasons to why I stopped playing but that was one of them.

Other than this, the simple chance of making a critical hit in pokemon games has always pissed me off, especially when fighting the elite four. For example, enemy pokemon is on low hp, one more hit from my pokemon who is on full health will beat it. However, enemy pokemon attacks and to my surprise it's a critical hit! My pokemon faints, and then the trainer heals theirs when I send out the next in my party. I'm sorry but that fucker must know their pokemon is about to hit a critical when they don't bother healing it for another turn.

You know that person that buys a lottery ticket for the first time and wins millions. And that guy that buys every week since it started and hasn't seen a penny. Raitos and predictions are fine. However it dosnt mean you are guranteed 1 in 25.

There was a weapon in WoW that my buddy wanted for his hunter. We ran that place 20 times together and he ran it solo and no drop. "Random Crits" in TF2! Heavy is spraying at me, the moment he starts hitting me his bullets start critting. "Random Crits" my ass. Or when a spy tries to backstab me as a sniper. I'll get my melee out and wildly swing. The moment I come into contact "RANDOM CRIT!" and I one shot him. Granted I wasn't complaining, but the crit thing goes both ways.

I take it by the lack of mention that no one in this thread had the misfortune of playing FFXI. Believe me, anyone complaining about the random chance of WOW should be happy they won't ever endure the kind of stuff that happened in this game. It's not as bad now, or so I'm told, but back when I was playing it was almost impossible to get good gear.

For example, if you were playing as a bard there was a level 17 staff that you needed. Not one that would be useful, or looked cool, or was better but optional. Something you needed to be taken seriously in parties (the only way of levelling at that time). When I was playing, this staff went for on average 7 million gil, a hell of a lot of money for new players, and even some veteran players. The only other way to get this staff? A 1% drop rate from a certain monster. A monster that only spawns every 2-3 hours, and even then will only spawn if someone is out there killing the "placeholder" mobs.

And that wasn't a lone thing. Just about every piece of class specific gear you could only get from a sometimes less than 1% drop rate, or pay an extortionate amount of money on the AH for it.

I used to play a MUD aeons ago and in order to gain a point in a combat stance it rolled two d100 and BOTH had to be higher than your current skill. Some people got extremely lucky with it and some never got 100 in a stance. Pretty nasty since it was a PK MUD and having 100 in a combat stance gave you bonuses.

Random drop rates on items and materials is one thing, but the ones I really hated in WoW happened during raids, usually when the boss would still have a 0.5% chance to parry your tank and reset his swing timer - not always lethal, but certainly a burst of damage. It was awful on really hard hitting bosses with already rapid swing timers. Your tank could take an unhealable amount of damage over less than half a second purely through chance. (I played a healer)

It was later fixed to minimise the issue (bosses that had no parry reset, for example, with other mechanics to discourage melee from standing in front like cleaves etc), but for a while it was a major pain in the ass to take a wipe for no fault of the players.

Random chance seems to like to troll me too.
Example: In World of Tanks, The tank I'm targeting always seems to get destroyed just before I shoot, or I get destroyed 1 millisecond before I'm fully reloaded, not in the middle of reloading...
