Warning, Spoiler if you havent seen the movie

So, I just watched this movie and I was curious if anyone else had. What did you think of it? Personally I thought it was really interesting but the ending felt like a bit of a letdown. I mean, whats the moral here, dont mess around with kevin spacey? The acting and everything was fine, and the way he did the killings was sick, but I felt like I should have walked away from it with more on my mind than "wow, thats fucked up."

On a side note, which murder did you think was the most interesting? I thought pride was really twisted because he left it up to the victim.

Lust was pretty disturbing, actually all the 7 sins where. I actually didn't like the movie though, just sorta meh for me don't know why though.

My memory of it is a bit fuzzy. However it inherantly states if I remember correctly that Kevin Spacey's character is incredibly smart because he caused another to complete his 'masterpiece' of the 7 deadly sins - whilst getting out of any repercussions of it (as in he dies).

My favourite was the Pride killing because I know so many people who are so self-centered and only care about their looks that I know they would kill themselves too.

I thought Wrath was my favorite, if only because it was the most memorable. My only problem was that it seemed unable to decide between being a psychological thriller and a slasher flick. Unfortunately, this meant that it was a relatively lackluster combination of both, instead of a great example of one or the other.

Really? JUST saw it? You know that movie is almost fifteen years old, right? Crazy...sorry, anyhow, I didn't find any one of the murders more gruesome or interesting than the other, but Morgan Freeman's running narration in the form of his speeches at Brad Pitt was just brilliant, made you think about things you wouldn't have considered otherwise without coming across as condescending...I dunno, I've always been a fan of David Fincher, anyways...funny, come to think of it, he also directed Fight Club AND The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...I get Mr. Fincher has a bit of a man crush on Mr. Pitt, but really, who doesn't, just a little bit?

Fight Club was pretty damned awesome, but then again, Chuck Palahniuk is a fucking GENIUS. I hear rumors that another one of his books is slated to get the big screen treatment pretty quick...

I watched both Se7en and Fight Club in the same night. Although Se7en was okay, only Fight Club left me with the WTF factor i long for in movies. In fact, i think its about time i go watch it again.

"Choke" already did; I haven't seen it but I heard it was good.

I was interested by the influences (subtle and not so much) Se7en had on the Saw movies- especially giving a choice to one of the victims, the fact that Kevin Spacey knew what Brad Pitt's reaction would be, and planned for it, and the thought of trying to make people "better" in some way, even though the methods were wrong.

I liked it. Lust was pretty bad. The ending... if you rented it, watch all the alternate ending, none of them are as good as I feel that movie deserves.

I enjoyed Fight Club more, but Se7en is still a really good movie.
It's meant to make you think it's just fucked up at the end, it's part of the point to it I thought.
It's been a while since i've seen it but I remember it being able to be seen in a few different ways. You have the story of the cops and the roughness and turmoil of their jobs and relationships, and the story of an intelligent psychopath who's insanity and knowledge of human emotions can trap a person against their better judgement. There's also a religious story in there but i'm staying away from that.
If it ended happily it would lose the point of a lot of it.

I loved Se7en. If you're willing to look beyond the obvious slasher plot, there's a lot of relevant symbolism and messages to be found here. A lot, for example, is said about the nature of "sin" and the Catholic Church (the "Seven Sins" are a Catholic thing.)

I also can't praise the acting enough. Morgan Freeman is great, but everybody else turns in stellar performances, too. The stark shooting style and overall darkness of the movie is another thing I liked about it. Some people just can't enjoy such a relentlessly depressing movie, but I loved it.

Here's a link to the best review of Se7en I've ever read.

I dont mind depressing, City of God is one of my favorites and I want to kill myself every time I finish watching it. I guess I just dont understand what message, if any, the creators were trying to communicate. Maybe every movie doesnt need to make a statement, but I think I prefer the ones that do. Especially after sitting through alot of uncomfortable scenes.

Again, not knocking the acting, writing, or cinematography. Kevin Spacey rocks my face off.

I friggin' LOVE Se7en. It's the only film I've seen that had me quite literally on the edge of my seat for the ending.

Pfft. I thought it was a terrible movie, intended to do nothing more than shock with some titilation of pornographic violence. It just never seemed to have any actual substance too it except for "creepy guy does a lot of bad things that are really cool! Now watch"

This is the first 18 I watched at the Cinema so has a special place for me. I think it still holds up as an excellent film. You must understand it's from a different time of films. When it came out it was revolutionary.

Choke has been filmed with Sam Rockwell. It won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance last year.
Invisible monsters is where it's at for me though - Film it. I don't think they can hear me...

Well, what I got from it is that the world is a shit place. Look at how the scenes look in that film. Full of very dull colours like brown and green. Its always raining. People do bad things all the time and anyone can be manipulated into doing them. The good people put into this environment (like Morgan Freeman's character) eventually lose the will to try and make it better and settle for apathy instead.

I'm glad City of God was mentioned because there's definite parallels between that and Se7en. manicfoot summed it up nicely, and so does Somerset in his last line of the film. Whereas New York is more about anonymity and how we tend to ignore more people the more densely we get packed in, the overarching theme is that life is hard.
