What are the differences between Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead? How would you compare them? Is it more economy based? Watched a couple youtube vids and saw that there was a trader that you could buy items from.
I've not played L4D but I can tell you what I know of KF - you have different classes to choose from, they each get stuff tailored towards that class, first of all, price break on class specific weapons, then more damage with the class specific weapons and then other stuff, like the Berserker (close combat) also gets some damage resistance and fasterspeed when wiedling a melee weapon, the medic gets healing grenades (they heal allies in an area but harm baddies), the demolitionist gets more grenade capacity and so on. Classes level up...generally by playing them the way you're supposed to (medics level up by healing others, pretty much everybody else levels up by using their class specific weapons. Some have an extra requirement, like the support specialist needing to weld doors shut).
After you all choose classes, you start the map and fight off waves of enemies, after each wave/round, you get a minute of downtime (and I mean a minute) when you can shop and swap classes. You get money for killing stuff and some at the end of the round. You get progressively stronger and more enemies per round. Don't underestimate the game - the more people there are, the more baddies there are and if you split up, that's a recipe for a wipeout. Also, if you don't act as a team. You have to act as a team or you just get chomped on.
Finally, if you manage to beat all rounds, you get to face the final boss. And that guy isn't joking - massive health, has massive damage attacks (chaingun, a rocket launcher and melee attacks that can take you out easily), can turn invisible and heal, or just flee. He can be one tough enemy. You'll have fun trying to take him out. Here is a tip - unloading everything is the key to success. Just don't stop shooting and pray he goes down.
Anyway, another game you can try is
Torchlight 2 - if you liked Diablo 2, it's made by the same guys as that and it's good. Quite fun to play, I really like it.
If TL2 doesn't capture D2 well enough for you, try
Path of Exile - it's free and it's...well, it's Diablo 2 but...a bit different and better. I don't know how to explain it other than that. It has an interesting mechanic where you don't have money, you just barter stuff - items for items. Also, your class only gives you (easier) access to passive skills - any active skills you can use are actually gems you get from drops and quests (or trading with other players) - your passives could improve the abilities, but the gems themselves gain levels and improve as you kills stuff, and there are support gems that alter how an ability works - they could make attacks move faster (thus causing more damage) or split off into several projectiles on impact and so on. Usually at the cost of the ability using up more mana. Quite interesting to play and, as I said, it's free.
But now, since you're 5, I can't miss out the opportunity to recommend
SWAT 4 to you (also definitely get the expansion pack - Stetchkov Syndicate) - you play as a team of, yes, 5 SWAT members and your goal is to go in and handle a situation. You can play the story missions or make your own (as in, pick a map and choose number of enemies, their aggressiveness, courage, and other such things). And you do NOT have to shoot the bad guys. In fact, shooting the bad guys is most likely going to net you negative points. You can use lethal force if they are shooting or going to shoot you (they keep their weapon at you) but boy, those are split second decisions to make there. Firefigts are over generally pretty quickly as bullets are really...lethal, surprisingly. You'd want to avoid those scenarios, of course. You could get non-lethal weapons, like flash grenades, tear gas, pepper spray, taser gun, and...a painball gun shooting pepper spray pellets. Similar to Killing Floor not playing as a team will kill you really easily. It's an awesome games if you like tactical shooters. I loved them after I played it.
