She doesn't like Preacher?! Surely something like that is relationship deal-breaker? =O

As for great graphic novels, the Fables series are fantastic.

I keep meaning to look into Fables, might pick up the deluxe hardcover over christmas.

I've seen a few mention Silent Hill graphic novels. Are they actually any good? I just assumed they'd be trashy cash-ins.

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she's left me twisting in the wind by saying that she wants "a cool graphic novel". I have no idea what that means, seeing how I'm not very into her part of the comic-world. I'm an Alan More/Ennis fan who enjoys a fair bit of capes, commercialism and action in my stories, but she's into the whole semi-indie scene.

What I do know is that she really enjoys Daniel Clowes, her favourite book is Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron and she's crazy about some guy called Chris Ware and owns a brickload of books from his ACME Novelty Library series. She also enjoyed Persepolis, Blankets and never says no to a introspective story about sadsacks. She liked The Walking Dead and is very accepting of horror-comics in general, but does not get why people like Watchmen, Preacher and Sandman. Which is confusing to me.

Based on this, can you, my fellow Escapists, connoisseurs of all things geek chic, help me find something else she'd like? I'm at my wit's end here, and so is my local comic-dealer.
Doesn't like sandman, first time i have ever heard that. anyway try I Kill Giants kind of sad story, Great graphic novel, And Johnny The Homicidal Maniac - pretty funny comic book. Anyway can't think of any other's just now

I have not heard of any of those comics except Walking Dead.
I am more of a The Darkness fan myself. Anyway if she likes Walking Dead then you can try Crossed. Its like a cheap knock off but instead of zombies it involves creatures that are basically Fireflys Reavers on earth.
DO NOT GO NEAR crossed i am huge Garth Ennis fan and even i cant stand the book. If you are going to read any of his books try his run on Hellblazer and his run on Punisher Max - Ennis at his best. oh if you want to preview any of the comics try this site - http://www.htmlcomics.com/ - it's a free online comic book library, its perfectly legal as well

The Ultimates trades and Atomic Robo trades are really good.

Osama Tezuka's Swallowing the Earth. I know that it's a manga and all that, but, It was well done. Can't suggest anything more sadly.
If we're expanding into manga, I'll second pretty much anything by Tezuka. Genius manga artist/writer.
