And as for an outright ban on smoking, fuck that. We should all have the right to put whatever we want into our bodies, even if it harms us. Because guess what, if I want to full my lungs with tar, that's my goddamn choice.

The problem is that you're not just putting something into your body. If you could smoke and make all the harmful chemicals stay there, then fine by me. That would be why I'm okay with other type of drugs (both legal and illegal). Smoking however, is harmful to anyone who happens to be near you. YOU, personally, might be considerate enough to not stand next to a 5-year old while smoking, but for every you, there's ten who won't, who'll just light up a smoke whenever they feel like it.

I think you could find a difference between someone finding something mildly distasteful and someone being fundamentally opposed to having people breathe in poison against their will.

This. Banning smoking outright would be about as successful as banning alcohol was or banning drugs has been. But nobody should be subjecting their child who has no say in the matter to second hand smoke. If they do they are unquestionably an idiot at the very least and I'd say a poor parent as well given that smoking around your kids makes them more likely to take it up and the dangers of second hand smoke are well known at this point.

I actually agree with not smoking in cars with children, I'd abide by that law but an all out ban from the moral brigade would piss me off and I'd do it all the more on principle alone. There are some that will say that my car will smell...fair play, I'm not forcing anybody to get in it. I don't smoke in my car when non smokers are passengers out of politeness but if the smell really offends your nostrils, walk or get a cab.

When I was a kid, I never thought smoke smelled horrible. Neither did any of the other kids for that matter that I remember. I only remember kids started thinking smokers were dirty after they were told in school smokers were bad people and that it smelled foul.

I also believe businesses should have the right to chose whether they allow smoking on the premises. Obviously make them pay more tax if they do as an incentive but leave the choice up to them. That way I could open a pub that allowed smoking and make loads of money. As for staff, if they don't like smoke, are allergic or anything else then don't apply for a job at my bar, knowing full well it permits smoking. I fully believe the only reason that was not the choice given is because no pub or bar would have banned smoking if given the option.

Smoking in a car with children under 16 is already illegal in Australia. I neither smoke, nor am under 16 so it doesn't affect me nor do I really care. I can't say I see the sense in completely banning smoking while driving, if there is no one else in the car all your really doing is taking aways someones right to smoke in a place where it bothers no one.

Prohibiting it where the smoker can harm others who cannot voice their displeasure about it or get away from the area is a good thing. Children and the infirm are examples of the former while public restaurants or stores are examples of the latter.

Outright ban is a bad thing. I am vehemently against any out right bans. I support it as long as there is a non-consenting party involved but the moment it infringes on what a person does in the privacy of their own home I am against it.

At least ban it in cars. I actually saw an accident this year that was caused by someone smoking. The traffic was getting kinda bad in front, and maybe four cars up they started stopping quickly. Nothing unmanageable. The car two in front of me was slowing down, but the one between us didn't look like it was slowing down. I got a good look inside the car and it was a lady messing with her cigarette. She finally looked up, but it was too late, and she tried swerving out of the way but hit the next care right on the left half of the bumper.

If I had left the house 10 seconds earlier, that could've been me. So ban smoking in cars.
