Hasn't the franchise died yet?

It's slightly sad watching them work toward resurrecting it. Hey, perhaps it will work and Sonic games will become cool again, but whew if it hasn't taken a long time getting there.

And the hand-held Sonic games have always been regarded as being strong entries in the series.
Not by anyone worth listening to. Dimps stank it up big time on the GBA and DS, no way around that. Especially Sonic Rush, which is also why I never trust anyone when they say the next game is great. Sonic Rush was "great" too... Unless you played the entire game and saw how bad the second half of it was. And then there's the people who say Unleashed was good, when even the "the daytime stages" claim doesn't fly. And for all the praise Colors gets, there's no way I'm going near it because it must be the shittiest game of all.

So yeah, praise Sonic all you want. You'll not be tricking me into playing another crappy game again.

Not to rain on your parade but the demo for Unleashed seemed to be good. Then the actual game dropped.
and 65% of it was still good

at least on the PS2 version, which seems to have more daytime stages than nighttime
In my school, 65% was an F.

I'm sorry but even if Sonic Team publicly executed the characters from Sonic Unleashed and made a title that somehow makes the TV disgorge beautiful women to suck you off while you play, one game alone isn't going to make up for Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Unleashed.

Though Sonic Generations is promising, I wouldn't get my hopes up too highly (although I myself have pre-ordered the game). This game has so many good things going for it, I would hate for all that to come crashing down with some gimmick that we will only be aware of once we start playing the released title.

When I saw Sonic Unleashed, I thought, "Yes! Finally, after all that Storybook games bull crap on the Wii, Sonic is back on top!" And for all of the Sonic Daytime stages, I was correct. You actually felt like Sonic has successfully crossed over in to the next generation of the 3D realm. Then I played the Werehog Nitetime stages, and I think I died a little inside; though not initially bad, they were NOT the Sonic stages that we had finished playing a few minutes ago. Half of a game was ruined, and that's what Sonic Unleashed will be remembered for the most.

It's like Sonic is in a race and he is just blazing through the entire track. The finish line is in sight, but before he crosses it, he trips on the Werehog stages, and falls flat on his face. He still manages to get up and win the race, but everyone will remember the fall much more than the victory.

Let's hope Generations changes this.

I played the Sonic Generations demo on the 360 when it first came out, and I was honestly unimpressed. I do love sonic, but the demo was incredibly short and only had classic sonic playable, which reinforces the feeling that sonic team is pandering to the people who think new sonic is garbage. If there is a new demo out I'll play it and maybe change my opinion. But as it stands, I feel that they're focusing too much on classic sonic. Does "LOOK. WHO'S. BACK!" ring any bells.

EDIT: I will still be pre-ordering the game and having my parents pick it up (in college right now, will play it during thanksgiving break), unless I decide to wait for the PC version or can confirm if Tales of Graces coming out this year.

No gimmicks, No other playable characters, Super fast old school sonic gameplay, all is good.

While resident evil 4 proved you can pull a series back, sonics been circling the drain for a long time, isnt that a sign that you shouldnt get excited until youve played the actualy game?

I have played the demo, which contains two whole levels in the game.

So yeah, it looks, and plays great, so unless sonic team destroys the code, delays it to remake the game with crappy gimmicks, their's no chance in hell that this will flop.

They have actually listened to the fans this time.

I'm now severely conflicted.
I love Sonic.
I used to own a Master System II that had Sonic loaded into the machine so you could play it without a cartridge in the machine.
But then the 3D games were so... under whelming and poorly done..
I don't know...
I guess I'll have to download the demo and see for myself.

If anyone is still conflicted or skeptical about Modern Sonic's gameplay.

I warn you now, you WILL be spoiled, but there is no other way.
