Well Nintendo consoles are still region locked so you can't play imported games on Nintendo consoles, both the Wii U and 3DS are region locked, and while it would be good if everyone could understand every language then localization wouldn't be a problem. However Atlus is a company that doesn't do multi-language stuff to my knowledge so that's where some issues arise right there.
Plus some games are digital only and all online stores are regionally locked and often times can't be changed, this is the case with the Vita for example. So that's where the concern is.

guys..why are you so concerned about localisation when both next gen consoles are multi region ? (and "HD")
Because Nintendo hardware isn't and the 3DS is where most of Altus' games are getting released on.

I also doubt that your idea of global region free releases is possible since a publisher needs to be fully licenced in a country to market themselves there. For example Rising Star Games made their PAL 360 CAVE shmup Dodonpachi Resurrection dual region with the US, but they couldn't promote the fact to any US media.

Imo region free isn't a total wonderland with streets paved of gold. It's great for games that don't get released in certain territories but can also be harmful for home markets where most of the hardcore fans of niche games import from elsewhere leaving localisations unviable for others who haven't imported. EG The Pal version of SMT Devil Summoner 2 struggling to get 1800 preorders or how bereft of Japanese PSP games UK PSN is compared to US PSN.

So long as Atlus games get timely releases around the world, and on multiple systems, I'm fine with whoever buys them. (So long as it isn't EA. I hate EA. >.<)
Japan doesn't allow foreign companies to buy out domestic ones, so that isn't gonna happen.

My money's on a holding company picking them up since they're small but profitable.
