Can't believe it myself but this is the first Miyazaki game I don't feel any hype for. The teaser looked a lot better. Where are the horror vibes? This looks more like a sequel to Nioh as a mainstream action title.

I'm sure the combat will be good and that the game is atleast fun but I have a hard time seeing the insane creativity here that examplifies Miyazaki's previous titles. I wouldn't even have guessed this to be a From Software title.

I wonder how the lootboxes will get jammed in this (0:41)

Does look kind of bland though, especially as a showcase. Regular dude with katana, slightly big dude with scimitar thing, guy on horse. Giant centipede maybe. Even from someone who finds most of the Souls pretty dull, thats a distinct lack of any marquee boss fights that they usually manage to get in.

From Software: YAY!

Activision: BOO!

So they're making Bloodborne: Nioh Bionic Commando. They...copied from a game that was already taking influence from them. Not sure how to feel about that. It looks neat, but I'm more of a Nioh guy due to its incredibly fast gameplay and combat depth.

I thought it looked pretty neat.
Looking forward to seeing more of the grappling mechanics and how the sword fighting plays out.

I just hope Activision doesn't have too much 'influence' over the game.

Well, I was really underwhelmed by Nioh. Really liked the combat, but found the enemy variety and level design lacking, and didn't like the loot grind.

This looks like Nioh, but hopefully with the level design I expect from a souls game, so maybe this is the game that I was hoping Nioh would be.

Honestly, I'm not totally sold though, mostly because I find ancient Japanese architecture kind of dull.

Still, looking forward to it. If it's even half as good as bloodborne it'll be worth playing.

So I wonder what yet unannounced FROM game Bamco will be publishing since Activision is handling this one. Anyways, I think it looks pretty cool, but I'll still be too busy with other games even when this releases. It's definitely a new direction for FROM even if it takes cues from plenty of other samurai style games of the past. Surely they'll stamp their signature twist in gameplay and design to set it apart and have people talking about it for years.

Having said that, it's almost a certainty they're working on something else as well, and it would be interesting to know which "team" is handling this.

Ya loot grind killed Nioh for me. Constantly opening inventory to shift trough a millions items is not fun. What made the soul weapon fun was that they were all unique in gameplay terms (different moveset, reach, speed) not how many number were on them. I'll take 20 different weapons over 5 bajillion variation of the same 5 any day.

I think everyone forgot that from software did Tenchu, so it's not like they don't know how to do ninja stealth game.

I am a bit disappointed that Miyazaki isn't working on armored core 6, hell I don't even know if AC6 is even in development (I'm gonna be even more pissed at 5 if it end up being the series killer).

I hope it leans heavily into being a character action and adventure game and drops most of the RPG elements as From wasn't really good at those anyway. I would like to see From have a go at basically going all out on a combat system as there really isn't much to Souls combat; I mean you dodge or block and do a few heavy/light attacks, back away and repeat.

I like all concept of dark soul studio. Sekiro - Shadows Die Twice appears to hit the characteristic beats of the Souls series, with a focus on frantic sword-play and giant enemies.

Yeah, same here. I thought the combat in Nioh was phenomenal but indeed the overall design was lacking. The loot grind, the uninspired levels, the limited amount of enemy types etc. I also found Nioh really, really difficult. And not in a fun way. Many enemies could one hit kill you and many bosses were an absolute chore(like that giant water blob thing umo bozu or whatever). However, some bosses went above and beyond what Souls ever did relying much less on pattern recognition. Also, rather than skill I felt Nioh was much more dependent on having the proper weapon load-out and armor/onmyo settings to essentially cheese the game. Ofcourse, Souls/Bloodborne had an element of this as well but atleast these games could also be beaten by pure skill as lvl 1 characters which would be an absolute impossibility in Nioh. Not having the one proper sword with elemental damage for the occasion(like for the water blob fight) in an inventory of 100+ swords just made for a really tedious encounter.

I don't mind the 16th century Japanese setting much in Sekiro but atleast I do hope it has a twist like the European medieval and gothic revival settings of From's previous titles. Though, when those games were revealed they really put a lot of effort putting down a very distinct and particular mood which I feel isn't really the case with this trailer.

I like feudal Japan, I liked Nioh and I like Bloodborne so I'm optimistic I suppose? It looks like it has a parry system similar to Metal Gear Rising and I liked that as well.

I still wish it was Tenchu or Armoured Core though.

I like the dusty feudal japanese setting. Hopefully this game will get away a bit from the typical Souls structure, it's becoming rather played out at this point. Also Fromsoft, make this a dedicated action game or make it an action RPG with actual RPG elements -- Don't do this Bloodborne shit where it's an action game that has rusty as fuck RPG controls.

Don't say that too loud. They'll hear you and you'll be driven mad by the buzzing horde rambling about weightiness, pacing, or alleged strategy or something.

Funny anecdote, while we were playing Conan, I was remarking to my buddy on not being able to dodge through the dragons claw with enough iframes to drive a passenger train through. (Conan has its own problems with even wonkier hitboxes, and if playing online, a godawful tick rate though)

Personally I think soul combat is very deep... but all of that is wasted because of i-frame and the games tendency to increase the amount of stamina you have, culminating in blood borne giving night infinite stamina. The combat is great when it's all about stamina management and positioning.

It sounds like it?ll be a spiritual successor [https://www.gamesradar.com/sekiro-shadows-die-twice-release-date-trailer-gameplay/] to Tenchu: Stealth Assassin. Speaking of [http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2018/02/26/20-years-later-continuing-legacy-tenchu-stealth-assassins/], that would be pretty cool as it possibly lays some groundwork for story, and will be a truly wanted and needed update to a classic era IP.

Given the expanded gameplay with new focus on stealth, vertical traversal, grappling, etc., what if this could be Miyazaki?s magnum opus. Just thinking about it, with the experience and critical acclaim gained from SoulsBorne it could set this ?new? IP up to be something on a completely different play field.

At least, one can hope.

I get what the iframe is supposed to be on paper. A handwaved representation of some variety of actions. And that From isn't exactly expelling cash from every orificie to get dozens of contextual animations for dodging various situations.

Still always seems kind of wacky-doo in a 3d environment. Its fine in 2d where you can pass it off as going around something on the 3rd plane that isn't shown. In 3d it starts becoming a magical power to become ethereal thats a bit jarring.

Agreed. I can forgive iframes for reasons of budget if the rest of the game is well-made, but I certainly don't prefer them. In fact, if it came down to say, Sekiro having iframes in its combat and Ghost of Tsushima not, I'd go with the latter. Both look like they could be a fun trip through that time period and setting.
