Some games offer American English and British English. Canadian English is very rare, especially since it has fewer firm conventions than either American or British English. In Canada, "Colour" and "Neighbour" are firmly considered to be the only acceptable spellings. However, it is considered acceptable to use either "curb" or "kerb", "tire" or "tyre", "traveled" or "travelled".

Sigh.. If we english created good games we could start the installation with:
English(England)
Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Anyway, this is the pettiest whine I've seen about something in quite a while. Well done.
Really? Even better then that guy who wanted to have sex with a decapitated arm earlier?? he was whining about how he could not have sex with it because the games industry did not allow him.
Despite his moronic example he had a fair point.

Yours is just bitching about what country gets to be put next to 'English' in brackets; the US is likely chosen because it's about 50 times larger than us, and since it's still English there's no need to add two countries in.
Hehe.. Are you agreeing with me in that quote or yourself?
Well obviously I'm not agreeing with you, that's why I labelled your argument as petty.

You were arguing that it should have said 'English' (United Kingdom).

Kinda. But no. It should of said just english. Whether we are from england, america, canada or australia(that country next to new zealand). You all speak english. Not american english or australian english.. just english.

But whatever; like I said, it's a petty complaint.

I've seen many games where the flag next to the "English" choice is the Union Jack. Then again, there aren't that many games that ask you what language you want to play in in the first place.
On the matter of the Union Jack - Why do they tack this into games when CLEARLY the spoken dialogue is American English? The illogicalness of it makes me fffffffffffff.

I'm sorry, what are we talking about here?

Is it ponies?

Everyone wants to talk about ponies!
This guy has a valid point. I mean, so did the original poster, but noone wants to talk about installation when there are ponies to discus!

Technically that guy(whose post I haven't seen) has a technical point. He wants to see more freedom and ability to do whatever in gaming, specifically fucking an arm.

I totally know what you mean. The only game I've ever played that showed a UK flag instead of a US one was a French game. Go figure!

I thought it was the other way around, England was the country and not the UK.

There are games that give you the option between English (US) and English (UK), for those of us who take the lift up to their flats.

What's really puzzling is games (well, software) that give tell you to select an option and the only option is English.

It says United States because it uses a US version of English, as in, you nkow those words that English, Americans and Australians have 3 different spellings for (damn I fotget any) well they use the American spelling.

It's possible that they're just going with population size.
Then it should say Spanish (Mexico) instead of Spanish (Spain).

I think the OP is just stating that there is in fact no such language as English (american), it is simply English and should be stated as such. From a grammatical point of view he is more than correct.
More than correct? How is that even possible?

You are technically correct, but the rest of the worlds won't recognise this. England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland are all countries. But we are united in one kingdom, see? According to wikipedia the official description of the U.K is a sovereign state, with four constituent countries.

I'm actually quite surprised that there are people who believe England is a state, i doubt this is something all Americans believe but to clear up any confusion i figured i'd break it down here;
England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales are all countries, they are capable of running separately as such, however for strength the united in various ways over the years forming different groupings as outlined
Great Britain: this is the collective name for the main island on which England, Scotland & Wales can be found, it does not include outlying islands belonging to those countries

United Kingdom: this refers to Great Britain + Northern Ireland (its actual name is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland")

The United Kingdom & Islands: this is the UK plus the Isle of Mann, Guernsey & Jersey (these islands all have their own laws & taxes etc which function entirely independently of UK law) these islands count as British possessions rather than colonies which makes their citizens British

there are others including the Commonwealth which involves colonies (including Canada if i'm correct), The British Isles, The Uk & Colonies (new name for what was the British Empire) and i'm sure there's more but they get way to complicated

------------------Education Ends--------------------

so anyway. . . . . ponies are fun
