Howdy Escapees

I was looking over the PlayStation blog a few minuets ago (for those not familiar a 'heads up' is posted weekly regarding the newest PlayStation store update) and was not all all surprised to see the newest update had absolutely bugger all that I was interested in. Usually I will download most demos or other free content to have a bit of a look see. But this time was I was just disheartened by a lack of interesting content, much as last week, and the week before...

Using my right to Anonymously abuse those in power I wrote a strongly worded message about how the Playsation platform needs to pull it's finger out and start offering reasonable content at a reasonable price and stop lagging behind the other platforms.

I was halfway through this rant when I stopped myself, exited the page, and went back to my game. Is it the my Fanboy Fanaticism is fading (I doubt it, as I will still defend things to the bitter end) or is it more that my expectations are so diminished each week that I have stopped caring. (It may also possibly be that I didn't expect my post would survive the ban-hammer very long)

So I ask you fellow Escapees, in the relatively anonymous world of the interwebz where your Avatar and Nickname are your only identification, do you say whatever comes to mind, or control yourself?

I control myself most of the time. I wouldn't say anything online that I wouldn't say IRL.

However, there is the occasional situation in which I let loose the full fury, so to speak. I generally try not to say anything that might make me look stupid in the eyes of smart, logical, intelligent people - well, anyone who isn't stupid anyway. I couldn't care less what arrogant, vitriolic idiots think of me.

I believe in remaining civilized in any discussion. The moment you become overly acerbic and start hurling insults my way (incidentally, a lot of people don't seem to know the difference between insulting one's opinions/beliefs and making a personal attack), I consider you to be beneath me as an entity and I will treat you with heavy disdain rather than respect.

Over thirty posts on Escapist and still not banned. I'm like a goddamn truck full of meditating tibetan monks.

I don't really employ much self control here.
I mean, I try to be nice here but that's because I like the community and wouldn't want to harm it in any way.
But on other sites I do tend to express harsh opinions and argue with people.
So, yeah, I pretty much say whatever comes to mind.

I'm nice if they're nice.
Or I'm just nice to make the bad ones look really fucking shitty.

Also, I too often delete my posts before I post them - although they got good content; I just get in my mind that it's really not that great and people might get the wrong picture.

Which happens... A lot.

You are not alone.

I don't exhibit all that much self-control on this site, but since I haven't been modded, I guess that means I'm not all that big of a dick to others online.

Hmm. I guess I'm not living up to my anonymity.

Piss off, TC

I try to treat forum conversations as if they were real life conversations. I try to keep things civil with who I'm conversing with but I admit that sometimes shit hits the fan and I can't control what I say.

I talk to people on the internet as I would in real life.

Mature, sophisticated, and pleasant.

Most of the time, I receive the same attitude back.

I Tend to be too chilled to get worked up over most things, Ive been ban hammered before on a forum although on that one I didn't do anything wrong and the admin would explain why even though i sent a polite email. xD

I like nice people on the internet and make an effort to be one. People are people, whether they're on the internet or not.

Unless they're a pedophile.

I control myself, I can't expect people not to be a dick on the internet if I don't follow that line myself. Besides, all you have to do is look at someones profile (eg mine) to find out that not everyone is as anonymous as you think.

When it comes to forum posting, yeah, I'll restrain myself. I avoid the politics and religion section completely to that end but when it comes to something I feel strongly about I've no problem writing a letter, posting a blog or commenting on another persons work which I agree or disagree with. I try not to flame, as flaming gets you nowhere.

I can have a flash temper and say things out of turn irl, but luckily forums allow editing. If you are really upset with the way playstation are handling things, think about, reason it out, argue both sides of the argument with yourself and if you still have a coherent debate after that I'd write your letter and sent it off / post it somewhere. The escapist is a great place for taking the temperature of how other feel on these topics.

Also, Playstation's content is dictated by what games are coming out / being made so it's not really Sony's fault 100% if they can't put up things that interest you often.

Nod I completely see where you are coming from and I understand they can only release things that are actually release-able, but it kinda seems they drag their heels on content that is released in other regions or other platforms, or spend time releasing content that i highly doubt many people would appreciate (i.e. Ps1 "Classics" like the little mermaid (Ariel was a Fox btw :p) ) I'm a good old Sony fan from way back, the Ps1 was my first console and I really do enjoy my system, it just kinda seems that from a online perspective they are a little behind the competition, which disappoints me. I'm not exactly angry at Sony, as in I don't want to write them a letter telling them how much I hate them and will burn my Ps3 to Ash and get a 360...I guess I'm just a little jealous of the Online component for the other platforms.

I tend to hold back a bit, yeah.
Not because I'm worried one of you is gonna see me in the street, remember I offended and that you're gonna run over to me and punch my face in, no, that would be a stupid thing to think.
Because I enjoy posting where I do and having the fun that I have.

And I'm about as anonymous as some guy who is holding a sign that says everything about him.
Just look at my profile here.
