If in a school someone can walk up to me punch me and start trying to beat me up and when i fight back both the guy attacking me and me get in trouble.
Why is it promoted to just let you get your ass kicked instead of fighting back?

What kinda place do you live i- oh, ok. Well, in ye olde Norway fighting back isn't accepted by "the man" (note, I always wanted to say that), but your a hero in school if you do. Unless the kid your fighting back against is a cool kid, then it's time to run.. RUN!

"Well... This person that comes up to you and starts trying to beat you up doesn't sound very pleasant. I imagine that, if you did defend yourself and even beat him up instead, he'd either get someone bigger than himself to crush you or beat you up with more friends. Hurting them only causes momentary pain but getting them suspended from school is much more painful in the long run. You can't fight back then try and get them suspended that just doesn't work, mister." - Jaranja

Hmm, he has a point you know. And if that doesn't work, remember to grab a little rock that fits in your palm before you might meet them the next time. Very underestimated tool that hurts like hell if you hit them in the right places (even the wrong ones).

HAPPY! =D

Because it shows you have been indoctrinated so that when you get a job the higher ups can yell at you all day with no fear of trouble?

I say fight back then tell the teachers that if they had gotten there faster then you wouldn't have had to fight.

Mostly I figure it is out of fear of parent reactions and the word lawsuit.

Telling a teacher WON'T help, it will either not change anything or somehow make things worse. You have to stand up for yourself, even if "unforeseen consequences" come in the future. Trust me, you'll feel a lot better when you show this person what happens when you pick on someone.

Don't bother. In today's schools, most little pricks know they can get away with it, because if fists start flying from the other guy, suddenly you're the devil incarnate. The problem is that most kids and teenagers, due to this, don't understand anything but a good whack in the face, but due to annnoying parents and whiny lawsuits, this can't happen anymore. Point is, being honest, teachers are useless when someones bothering you, and you can't do anything about it, because you're somehow instantly worthless and scum.

Step 1: Ban all fisticuffs in schools.
Step 2: Condition children to know they can get away with anything they want, because words don't work anymore and fists aren't allowed.
Step 3: ??????????????????
Step 4: Profit!

Because they want you to deny your violent animal heritage. Or maybe they want passive students who won't stand up for anything. Or it could be something else, but whatever it is, it's wrong.

I only got into a very few fights throughout my scholastic career, and thankfully never got my ass beat. The trick is to put them down fast and just walk away.

It's school; logic doesn't apply.

Although the more logical parents will often say your suspension is essentially a "vacation", as they won't ground you for defending yourself.

My dad always told me that his dad told him "if some one fucks with you knock him on his ass" (im paraphrasing) My grandpa also taught my dad how to fight.
More OT: schools do that for the same reason they tell you everyones special and smart. They want you to believe the world is perfect and not a horrible place so that you'll be a good person. Which is a load of BS. School has the worst propoganda ever. They should hire some ex-soviets

I guess it's the whole Christian 'turn the other cheek' thing that a lot of schools have taught for hundreds of years, from when a lot more people were religious, but it has good points and bad points. Retaliating can ofter exacerbate the situation, but sometimes making a stand can put the shits up people and result in them leaving you alone. I guess. I've never been bullied so I aint sure, but thats my rather drunken view on it all :p

Over here in contantly raining england, got in a fight, it was with some asshole in the year below me, i fought back and didn't get in trouble at all, probably because the teachers knew about how i always used to get bullied, the fight went awesome, he tipped water over my head so i threw a 2ltre bottle of coke at his, he stared punching and kicking me, so i just grabbed him and shoved a couple of fingers n a really uncomfortable part of his neck (like right under his ear), i was always taught to fight back but never did and now i'm glad i do, aftr that no one bullied me for the rest of school.

I punched a bully and used an apparently fractured hand to conjure tears get zero punishment

My two regrets are the fact that it was spontaneous in the middle of class with no video cameras and that I should of just copied Zidane.
