Usually, I don't replay game campaigns when I finish them. However, if I do, I usually try throwing a twist in. For example, I finished Bioshock without using plasmids (except for the doors). I also finished Red Faction Guerilla without using the two Rocket Launchers and Rail Driver. How about you, any self imposed challenges you've done?

My friend challanged himself to complete GTAIV a second time round without harming a single pedestrian.

He failed.
Well, their logic is to jump infront of cars coming at them.

I am starting to see the appeal of speed running because of Duke Nukem 3D. I am in the top 500 for some levels, just out of how I normally play it, and though I wont get as into it as some, I may take greater interest in teh future.

I try to play Paper Mario 2 without badges, except for the sound affects and the emblems that change your outfit. Not like I use those anyway, but it makes it more difficult.

I often try to play modern games, without getting any non-plot related achievements.

Do you know how bloody hard that is when you get rewarded for 10 headshots, or killing stuff with 5 different guns, or getting 50+ kills with one gun etc...? I have to get bloody creative in the ways I kill my enemies.

If I could, I would complete the game without plot-related achievements either.

If you play offline, then delete just your profile, then go back online and restore it, all offline achievements will be gone, or ratherm not gotten.

Let's see.
Resident Evil 4 With only the Mine-Thrower(on a previous run I was unnaturally blessed with 3/4ths of the attache case full of Darts) Success. (this was freakin' difficult in a few parts)
RE4 Only Pistols.(No Magnums) Success.
As OP tried Bioshock without unnecessary plasmids. I didn't finish that one.
Dragon Warrior 3 only using the Hero...geez...it is hard.(This barely qualifies as I didn't come up with the idea, merely tried to follow another) Didn't finish yet, Orochi seems dead-set on having me for dinner every time I try. D:

Trying to beat the Deniable Ops missions in Splinter Cell: Conviction without gadgets or guns (including the hand-guns).

Mirror's Edge: No using weapons, no killing unless the game FORCES me to.

Assassin's Creed II: Only unarmed, no using your own weapons.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment anyway.

Usually whenever i play a game again, I try to make it more difficult. Like for Fallout 3 I played the basic story without using any clothing.

And why would I go online in the first place? If I play a game single-player mode, it ain't getting internet-access, ever. The way I figure it, if it has a single-player mode, it doesn't need the internet for anything. If it insists it does for DRM or whatever, I crack it, safe and sound in the knowledge that I have the legal copy of the disk sitting in my shelf.

And rarely are games these days worth it for me to actually play it online. Last one was L4D. The one before that, Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault.

Only time I ever did something like this was in final fantasy 1, beating the game with only white mages.

360?

Ummm, achievements have invaded the PC world. See Dragon Age:Origins, Mass Effect 2 etc...

Three hearts in Zelda Wind Waker, Oracle of Ages, and Link to the Past (Palace of the Four Sword included). The last one requiring some glitching to do, especailly since I've never played Four Swords.

Any of the Fire Emblem games I force myself to keep everyone alive, no matter what.

Can't think of anymore.

4 white mages? It will never work.

Cut to end of the comic

Dammit.

Well excuse me for associating achievements with the 360 for some crazy reason.

I generally only do this for games that I warrant playing again. Though I have to mention the huge list of restricted completions of Final Fantasy 7 [and other FFs] that players do.

I stick to FPS games for this kind of thing, as the OP did. Crysis mostly. I think the key element for myself at least is the ease with which the game is beaten. Bioshock, Crysis, these are easy games even with the difficulty setting maxed. It's a good feeling to be able to jack it up to the highest difficulty and then add restrictions.

I love doing this on most of my games nowadays. Gives me a reason to blow off the dust of some games, and I hate the trophies and achievements systems being implemented now. Personal ones feel a lot more meaningful.

My favorite one was trying Far cry 2 without ever buying a weapon or going into a weapon shop for ammo/medkits, just picking the scraps of the ground.
