I often try to play modern games, without getting any non-plot related achievements.

Do you know how bloody hard that is when you get rewarded for 10 headshots, or killing stuff with 5 different guns, or getting 50+ kills with one gun etc...? I have to get bloody creative in the ways I kill my enemies.

If I could, I would complete the game without plot-related achievements either.
If you play offline, then delete just your profile, then go back online and restore it, all offline achievements will be gone, or ratherm not gotten.
Don't do this. Some games get buggered by this. Eg. I lost progress in both Bioshock and Army of Two: the 40th Day by doing this. Well something very similar.

Played offline. Went to brothers house. Recovered my Gamertag. Played.
Went home. Need to recover gamer tag. Did so.
Lost all guns, money and such but was on last level in 40th day and lost like 2 hours of Photo taking in Bioshock.

I tried playing F.E.A.R. without the reflex mode. It's like playing CoD without sprinting, Final Fantasy without using magic, or using the brake in Forza Motorsport.

I'm currently trying to play through ArmA 2 a second time on the hardest difficulty. I was going to try it on the hardest difficulty without dying (or losing a team member), but I don't think there is anyone on earth who could possibly do it, so I just settled for beating it on 'Extreme.'

Such a good point, i always tend to save up those kinds of special power ups for parts where i get absolutely fucked up, usually by this method i forget i have said abilities until respawning the 5th or 6th time.

Anyways when dead space came out i figured i could beat the game just using the first gun and on hard, because it was fucking awesome and i couldnt really get used to the other ones / switching weapons with necromorphs on your ass sucks. Back on topic though i was pretty satisfied when i beat the game but totally had my idea ninja'd by the devs, got a gold trophy for it though :p

Personal challenges have made games far more fun for me. It leads to some pretty awesome discoveries.

Assassin's Creed 2 for an example:

Ezio + Broom = Massacre of everybody in city. I tried to do this for the entire game, but it is fairly hard to do when you can't free-run with the broom.

I've been tempted to try to get through Red Dead Redemption with as little killing as possible. Shoot to wound and lasso people, stuff like that. Although that will be pretty damn impossible at some points. I guess I need to try easier stuff. I have always wanted to take down a bear with a knife..

In Wizardry 8, I like making difficult-to-us themed parties, just for fun. My current project is a Samurai, Ninja, Valkyrie, Monk, Bishop (focusing on Wizardry and Psionics), and Bishop (focusing on Divinity and Alchemy).

In City of Heroes, I like making concept characters. One of my favorite alts might not have his own travel power.

After beating Quest 64 once, I challenged myself to beat the game with only Fire and Water spells (healing, but no magic barrier), and succeeded. Then I tried the game with only Fire and Wind spells (no healing or magic barrier). I hit a brick wall with the second-to-last boss. Goddamn Begis.

In various other games, I like challenging myself by only using certain weapons (Nevan and Beowulf in Devil May Cry 3) or spell types (becoming Earth-imbalanced in Soulbringer).

Any of the Fire Emblem games I force myself to keep everyone alive, no matter what.
Hell, I don't do that as a challenge. I do that out of guilt.

It only took (almost, but for the reset button) losing Rhys and Rolf in Path of Radiance to hammer that into me.

Oh I am aware. I used to move between 360's alot at one point, so now my profile is on a memory card. Just pop it in and viola. I try to stay connected though anyways.

My friend challanged himself to complete GTAIV a second time round without harming a single pedestrian.

He failed.
My wife asked me if it was possible to beat GTAIV without breaking the law, which elicited a strange look from me as I said slowly: "Grand... Theft... Auto...".
She then qualified that to mean without breaking the law outside of story missions - no bad driving, no gunning down random pedestrians. I think I lasted about thirty seconds before running a red light, smashing into a police car and spinning out of control into a crowd of pedestrians. I then jacked the police car and ran down the officers trying to arrest me.

"Could you please repeat the question?"

Brakes in car games? Uh... I've never used them, so that's probably my challenge.

I used to play through the first few TR games and try to use pistols only. Fights like the legless mutant & Natla weren't over in a hurry.

Oblivion without killing a single civilian, guard etc.
God it was hard. "I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you"
and in escort missions they always get in the way. No exception; so I had to double check every sword slash I made before making it
(of course I couldn't technically FINISH the game since some of the DB missions and Thieves guild requre combat)
