I have been dealing with depression for a while now and it seemed like it was going to stay that way. But then I thought to my self :
"why wast time moping and hating all existence when I can be using it to put move effort into the things I like?"

So I have decided that I am not going to let the hate of those around me bring me down and I'll try my best took keep as positive as I possibly can.

When I have a crappy day or something really annoys me remember these words

"keep you head cool and your spirit high, hate and sadness have no place in your brain. Rise, shout, get pumped!!?

my question is this:
what do you do to motivate yourself when your depressed?

It's not the healthiest habit, I admit, but here's what I do.

Get myself some good food (this usually equates to fast food of some sort, so maybe "good" isn't the right word here) kick back, and watch some TV show on DVD or Netflix.

I can't watch my favorite sitcoms without cheering myself up.

When I'm trying to write and nothing is flowing, I go back and read my winning contest entries and correct my own grammatical errors... nothing is ever as good as I want it to be, but my stupid shitty signed copies of the Blizzard archive books proves that anything is good enough for SOMEONE.

I remind myself that I've made it a hell of a lot further in life than anyone ever expected me to.

So it goes something like this:

Me: "I can't do this."
Me: "You sure as fuck can."
Me: "But, I can't. It's too hard."
Me: "Bullshit! Look at what you've already done. If you could do that, you can do this!"
Me: "Okay!!!"

Hah.

That sounds like some of the stuff I do.

I can't seem to motivate myself to do anything, but when things are really bad I just remember all the bad things I've been through in the past. And I tell myself that if I could survive through all that, then I can do anything.

Work, work very hard.

If I get down about stuff, then I do assignments until I feel better.

When I get down.. I make life take the lemons back.
I sort of bully myself as motivation, it sounds bad, but it works.

I remember I have plenty of family and friends that care for me and I have no reason to really be upset so long as I have them.

I just skip to the being cheered on part. No point is wasting time, I have shit to do.

I don't allow myself to get sad. There are so many people out there that have it far worse off than me, I'd just feel selfish in feeling sorry for myself.

That said, Music always get's me more motivated, and If I ever need to make a decision that seems to be inhibiting me, I just flip a coin.

OH! That, and I watch the Digimon: The Movie. That has such an awesome soundtrack and it just fills me with nostalgic happiness, I mean come on.

I have stuff I should do and stuff I want to do, but I never end up doing them. So thanks for making this topic.

Ask myself whether what I'm doing is beneficial. When I realise it isn't, I get back to my life as normal. Works for things like regret and guilt too.

I find that a good session of DDR kicks me back into gear.

I was unable to focus on my work at all yesterday (And my mood was going downhill fast), then I decided to try setting up my DDR again (been wanting to do that to keep in shape for a while now), and after a good 12 songs, BAM, I was feeling much better and was motivated to kick some Statistics ass.

So some fun, mildly exerting exercise is great for motivation. It allows your brain to switch off for a bit, while providing more oxygen to your body, as well as a bit of adrenaline.

What I used to do was to go out, get drunk and get laid. Hardly that much an effort in the rock-scene. What I do now when I am feeling down is to go work out, or get a new tattoo. I got some rather big issues with my body-image, so it helps.

I usually think about my life goals and refocus when things feel down. It's enough to bring me out of most of my bad spells.

I don't bother. Instead I say to myself, "What is physically wrong right now that is making you sad?" and go eat, or sleep or take peelz for the migraine that I've all but ignored and so often makes me angsty with pain. I'm bad about general human upkeep, and chances are, I've accidently skipped a meal and telling myself nice things to persevere through is detrimental in the long run.

Migraines are weird.

My spirituality generally cheers me up, it provides a good sense of self-motivation to improve my being and in turn help others. I also enjoy watching tv shows I'm addicted to :p
