Had a great main character Domasi Tawodi (also known as "Tommy") Cherokee mechanic and former soldier, with spiritual powers. He saved the world while losing everything, but at the end he was going to explore a wide and wonderful universe.
It could be a sort of farscape meets mass effect (with a dash of pyschonauts), as your a lone human meeting strange and wonderful (or disgusting) alien races on unique planets. Like one completely under water where you swim up and down in all three planes, one with very low gravity where you bunny hop across all surfaces, stuff like that. Races could havee unique idealogies and speech behaviours.
You'd be learning more of your grandfather's mystic and magical powers, while packing huge plasma weapons.
There would also be the unique situation, where Tommy used to racism and discrimination becomes the representative of all mankind.

I'm not sure if it could be pulled off, but I think Eternal Darkness was a great game that deserves another remake.
Legend of Dragoon 2 would still be ridonculously awesome though.
