Ever play a sequel that feels like a glorified expansion pack? If so which game and tell of your experience?

*Awaits the million New Vegas, L4D2, Bioshock 2 and Halo: ODST comments* What? They will be coming soon.

Anyway, I have to say I haven't really had a game feel like it was an expansion pack to me.
I guess most of the sequels I've played[footnote]And I've played all the games I mentioned[/footnote] have been different enough for me to warrant paying a decent price for them. Although ODST for £6 was a bargain, I'll tell ya.

It's true. Halo: ODST was decent, but totally overhyped. New Vegas, too, was an okay game, but it was really just a big, glitchy expansion.

Well if you really want me to knock off all of those titles right now I can:

Fallout:New Vegas - Didn't feel like a sequel to Fallout 3 because they began to bring back aspects of previous Fallout games like the NCR, it was unique in some places and New Vegas itself was nice.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Far different from the original with its extra weapons, new bombs and health equipment, new special infected, and extra modes........however, still vastly inferior to the 1st.

Bioshock 2 - Yes, it did feel like an expansion but in a good way, it provided a different view of Rapture and I definitely liked it.

Halo 3: ODST - Definitely felt like an expansion and was not worth the time or money to make it.

THERE :p

I'll have my own games to chime in on later.

Hmm, I could give you ODST, mainly as now I properly think about it, the campaign was a bit short, although it was fairly good fun, Firefight was just plain fun to play with a mate and the extra disc that came with all the maps was a good addition and my main reason for getting it. Then again, I didn't pay full retail price for it or actually plan to buy it, I got it when I traded in a couple of games and saw it and thought "Eh, can't hurt to get it."

And as for New Vegas, I could reel of a few reasons I don't consider it an expansion at all but I'm not looking to get into a calm[footnote]Well, I hope it would be calm, I am prone to my odd fanboy moment not[/footnote] and reasonable debate at the moment. But to me, it's far from being an expansion for a few reasons.

Also, loving your user name. :D

I actually enjoyed ODST's campaign quite thoroughly, but it just wasn't as replayable as I would have liked. Firefight was pretty good though, I will admit. But I payed full retail price for it, and I couldn't help but think: "Eh. I could've gone without."

And about New Vegas: I just don't know. Is it an expansion? Well, no, it's got lots of cool, new features to use, places to see, and experiences to, well, experience. But I just can't shake the feeling that it is just a big add-on. I'm thinking this is because the game itself is too much like Fallout 3, and I'm just not as impressed by the grand, open world and fun RPG gameplay because its just too similar.

And thank you! I like your name too. :)

the force unleashed 2

i dont care if people enjoyed it or not, because i did, but wow that thing was literally an expansion. im so happy i only paid 20 bucks for it and not 60 or so like some people i know

otherwise fallout new vegas and l4d2 are not expansions at all, if they are, then god help us as 90% of the fps market are expansion packs.

now i dont feel like arguing about it at the moment, just an opinion, maybe tomorrow i suppose.

Fallout: New Vegas, it feels like a really BIG expansion pack. A really awesome one too but still feels like it.

Doom II is the longest expansion pack I've ever played. One new weapon, a handful of new enemies, and pretty much the same textures.

I don't really understand how New Vegas is.
I mean, the game adds around 100 hours of play time if you want to go EVERYTHING...and that itself is not an expansion; that's a game. It has a completely new story with new characters in a new setting. Sure, the gameplay is the same as Fallout 3, but would you have it any other way? It's the same franchise, so of course it's going to have similar gameplay! (excluding Fallout 1 and 2, but those are older games from a 'less advanced' time).

Or UFO 2, a.k.a. Terror from the Deep. At least it had all new textures and ever so slightly different mechanics.

How about just about ANY sports games that gets "republished" each year ?
