If I'm not at home, I'd take a convoluted route home and turn down any offers of a ride and immediately call the cops with the numberplate. If I'm at home, I'd deadbolt myself in my room with a lot of food, keep my phone charged and a bag packed, and escape out the window if necessary. I haven't really thought about what I'd do with my family in this situation, but let's assume they've taken care of themselves.

I'd head out to Wal-Mart and get some ammunition for the Springfield we have. Other than that- nothing. I live in a fairly large city and, other than the precaution of actually making our sole firearm usable, my family would probably not have to do anything.

I imagine that they would be able to monitor where said serial killer was around and what his usual M.O. would be- since most serial killers do follow an archetype and patterns most of the time.

Though I would have an irrational paranoia, I would have to find some solace in the fact that I am a white 6'4" tall male working in a kitchen. It sounds harsh to calm myself with it, but I'm don't fit the usual target for any kind of serial killer.
