I sat at my computer typing the comedic musings of a slightly unhinged mind. They sat in Rick's parlor, finally able to talk to him after the incident with Phylis and the lemon suares. "So you want a catapult, huh? Well you came to the right place. May I ask what you need it for?"
"There's this evil army o cats trying to take over the world and the president thinks a catapult will help defeat them." Angel said.
"Ah, you're adventurers. I used to be an adventurer until..."
"Finish that sentence and I hurt you."
Rick plowed on saying what he was saying. "I went in to the catapult market. Been making tons of money ever since."
"Hm. It could have been worse, I guess. But I'm watching you. Don't make another joke like that."
Suddenly Pancho...
Suddenly there was a crash pulling me out of the world of nonsense. Then there was another. someone was breaking my windows. I got the gun I keep in my desk drawer, and walked to the door. As I walked more bricks came through my window. I looked out the small window in the door. There was a mob outside with a pile of bricks and rocks, and ech of them had a pitchfork or torch. I stared laughing. Ha! Me? The killer? How wrong can these people be? I just moved here why would I want anyone dead?
So I opened the door hoping to set them straight. Everyone started to run at me. I swiftly drew my gun and shot into the crowd. The bullet hit one of the maniacs in the leg. Maniacs? I thought, If they are maniacs what sets them apart from myself? Or the killer? Or the rest of the world? What if we're all crazy? I started laughing again. This time a maniacal laugh. I shot into the crowd again. "Stay back!" I yelled pointing the gun at the horde. I pulled up a chair, and sat down. I prpared myself for a long standoff. I looked at the faces. That scared me a little. Each one had a look of genuine hate. They wanted so badly to charge and stab me to mush like the other girl. I felt a little wince through the cloud of crazy that was forming in my head. You took part in choosing her, a little voice said. But what choice did I have? It was either go to the mob meeting vote for her in the name of self preservation or die. See how far that got you? The voice responded. "Go away!" I yelled at the voice the crowd looked at me like I was insane, which in all fairness, I was. The only thing keeping them back was fear of their own death.
Four hours later nothing had changed. I decided to talk to the army that had enacted this siege. "So what makes you think I killed those people?"
"You're new here." One of them replied.
"So you kill me then? No evidence or reason other then 'I'm new?' No court? Oh, right that wouldn't work, because there is no reason to suspect me. And of course you want blood. Lots of blood. Like the Romans of old. Are humans really more evolved then say a lion or a bear? Or any other creature? Are we better than the pigs wallowing in the mud, or the worms digging around in the dirt or the jellyfish mindlessly drifting in the ocean? Are we better than cattle, slowly being led to the slaughter? No! We're not. Humanity sucks I can't wait for the cats to take over."
I looked at the crowd to see if I had changed anything. I had not.
Another three hours later I was tired. Really tired. The cloud in my mind had turned the people into demons. Ha. I thought some of them look better that way. The mob looked tired as well. i leaned on my my chair, resting my head on the gun. What stupidity. I was not in fact superior to anyone. I had spent my life calling myself a genious, quietly mocking the stupid. So maybe it wasn't the mob that killed me, maybe it was fate.
Fate is a *****. Don't trust her.
I fell asleep for a moment. woke with a start and... BANG!
The gun went off, sending the bullet straight through my brain.
