I have no Abaddon yet
My next purchase is the Mauler/Forge Fiend. However, tonight I will be painting "The Chosen" squad. Then my Raptor squad. I plan to run Thousand Sons in the end as well as bring in Necrons. However, that is later in the the league. Right now, I am running a 500 point army that consists of that squad of "plague marines" (proxy), The Chosen, and a Chaos Lord with the Mark of Nurgle. I plan to have that banner instill fear so approaching my ranged squad is tough. But I am still not sure how banners work as far as points go.
I actually use the cream drybrush/ brown wash for skin already and I agree. Washes really help details pop. Iam not really sure what you are talking about on the eyes. WHat I did was use a sky blue to dry brush the eyes, then washed it with standard blue. However, I had smudged and when I went back in with black, it spilled into the eyes a bit and now I have to touch them up again. All of them need small touch ups but any advice on painting is welcome.
I will admit I got lazy and sped through these on the last half. That's why their body and legs are a brighter 'gold' than their hands, heads, shoulders, and backpacks. It is less noticable in the pics. I do have a new gold though called Auric Armor Gold which is like yellow gold. That is the gold I will be using on my CHosen and Raptors.
I love talking about the painting and techniques as I am really into the painting aspect of Warhammer as it is like a throwback to model cars for me. I am mostly working on my drybrushing right now as there is many ways to approach it beyond just a base coat. I have done 2 drybrush layers, a wash and then a another drybrush layer. I love easier/lazier techniques so I like hearing how other people approach it as well. Sometimes people know a MUCH easier way to do the same thing I have been doing like 2 steps opposed to 5 steps AND it looks better.
I will try washing blue over the silver. Currently I dab-wash black on it. Straight washing black dulls the silver otherwise.
