Some of us know when it's time to put down a beloved series, whether or not if it's personal or a bandwagon idea. (i.e: Duke, Sonic) ZP introduced me to the idea that there is a time that a company shows little interest in one of their many money makers; when just continuing a series on a life support of cliche, rehash, and botched experiments leaves it disfigured, impotent, and in a state of "wake me up when you need more SSB filler".
What are the games that you think have past their prime, and need to walk into the light? If you like, meditate on those series that left our world too soon.
(Wow. The only thing missing from that statement was tearful organ music.)

Starfox. I wanted to type an essay for this place about why I find Nintendo's anthromorphs in space series floating into a black hole. However, It was unnecessarily lengthy. I wrote that Starfox Assault was the spike driven into the heart of the series, with Command giving it a proper funeral. I've only read the epilogues of Command on the internet since I fail at RTSes just enough to prevent me from getting past the first mission. But Starfox was also one of those occurances of a sentient tech demo. It was introduced to show off the Super FX chip and compete with Sega, with only some pilots added to give it personality. If there's a Wii Starfox coming out in the near future, hopefully it can prevent the casket from closing. But for me, I don't see a future for a series that has little substance.
Shenmue. I've stated on a few occasions that Shenmue 2 is in my "best worst game" list for its cheesy voice acting and bizarre gameplay, which was balanced by its charm and storyline. But to cap it all off it had the worst ending/cliffhanger i've seen in a game that did it's job by drooling for a sequel even though I felt unfulfilled. (For those who played the game, I think it should have ended at the Kowloon final boss.) Now, Halo 2's ending was bad and left a similar impact, but at least had closure. Shenmue gives no sign of giving any closure. The first two didn't sell well, so Sega has probably euthanized it in Western countries.
