So I share an Xbox with a roomate. She's decided she wants a second one for her room so she can watch Netflix in the comfort of her bed. Sure, kinda crazy, whatever. She also decides she might as well go for the Kinect. Okay, fine, cool. She brings it home and wants to connect it to "my" Xbox (Elite, in the living room), but it won't fit. The hell? They have a perfectly good USB port in the back, completely unused, but the plug just QUITE doesn't fit. I check online, apparently I need an ADAPTER.
What? You take a multi million dollar gamble on a post release hardware peripheral (for the record, can you think of a single one in gaming history that was a success?) and you don't want it to be readily accessible? I mean, sure the Kinect comes with it out of the box, but the kinect + system doesn't HAVE the adapter. My situation may be a rare one, but was inconveniencing me REALLY nescessary to your income?
Whatever, I have a thought, we can just put the new Xbox in the living room, the old one in her room. Oh wait we can't! Can't transfer hard drives easily anymore (plus would need a Wifi modem anyways).
So the only way to get it to work is to spend more money on a stupid adapter. Okay, fine. It's a simple thing. The wire is damned near an USB entrance anyways (honestly, we could theoretically just move the plastic around and it'd work), should be simple. I start searching around and can't find it. Amazon has some sort of AC adapter for 20 bucks ( http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Kinect-Adapter-Power-Supply/dp/B004IXRXGY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302059494&sr=8-1 ), which isn't horrible for a power suppply but not really what I need, so I keep searching for it and can't find it.
This is stupid. I break down and just call tech support. After the computer forces me to enter my serial code to connect my call, I get a person. I explain the situation, he then asks me for the serial number AGAIN " to further assist me." I read it off while wondering how the hell THAT would help. He starts to talk to be about registering the box and I cut him off saying "I don't need any of that, I just need the NAME of the item so I can purchase it." He puts me on hold, presumably getting his boss, who shows up on the line and tells me the item exists, bu they DON'T SELL IT. The hell? They discontinued sales!
All right, so you set up your peripheral in a way I can't actually attach it to my old Xbox without an extra wire (Why? To get a few more bucks? Maybe to entice me to buy the new Xbox when I lose the cable? Seriously, what's the plan here? Just pissing people off?) then you just DON'T SELL THE ADAPTER? Fine, I'll buy it from someone else, just give me the bloody name, I'll plug it into google and ta-dah. Oh wait, he DOESN'T. FRIGGIN. KNOW IT. Sunova-- He plugs it into google and finds the same thing I did and tells me that's what it is (btw, http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/buy/pageType.product/externalRefID.9A4CFC08?one=blank&WT.mc_id=mercent&two=blank&three=blank&mr:trackingCode=E48823F9-40EC-DF11-B690-001517384909&mr:referralID=NA they DO sell it: For 35 bucks!).
Seriously? That's the business model? Adapter for no reason, attach it to a power supply so you can charge five times the preice you SHOULD, all for what? That's what bothers me the most, what do they stand to gain by making using their stupid, extra expensive gamble that their company wants to sell oh so well, so god DAMNED hard? Why ISN'T this a simple plug, play, enjoy affair? Who benefits? *sighs*
Sorry, just had to vent... Carry on.
