If you've been on The Escapist recently odds are you've heard about Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, the upcoming 4-player fighter from Sony featuring characters from the nearly twenty year history of the Playstation system. The game's demos have received mixed to positive reviews so far and looks like it will be a blast to play, I personally have been hoping for it since I learned about Smash Brothers Melee. But since the game's announcement we've been drowned in comments claiming that it's just a poorly made copy of SSBB while others use it to call Sony creatively bankrupt and it's fans pathetic. The characters are irrelevant nad the stages are bland. Geeze, It's almost comparable to a 12-year-old's reaction when they get knifed too often in Call of Duty.

This is really annoying me for two reasons. 1) we barely know anything about the game besides a few characters and stages. Furthermore if you don't have a PS3 or Vita then it shouldn't matter anyway, you won't be able to play the game so why are trying to ruin it for the people that want to?

2) An answer to is not a rip off. When one company decides to create an IP to rival their competitors they are not ripping each other off. As an example: The Old Republic is not a clone of WoW, it was made by EA and Bioware to challenge their rival Activision's control over the MMO market. Furthermore EA did the same thing with Battlefield 3 and the rebooted Medal of Honour, attempting to shake Activision's hold on the FPS market. These rival IPs are in the same respective genres and play similarly, but all provide different experiences and it's wrong to just dismiss a game for having a similar gameplay style to another that you like.

In summation: grow up, stop trolling, stop being so insecure and try to react to something that doesn't affect you with the maturity that you should possess as an adult, gamer and/or person.

If they didn't want to get reactions like that they shouldn't have used such a similar UI. It's a similar font, and the colours are exactly the same (except green and yellow are switched around). Not to mention the tagging incident.

Other than that it just looks like a game that took the horrible floatiness and super-moves from Brawl and ran off a cliff with them.

Oh you are absolutely right, we don't know enough about the game yet. I will say this, though, that system for KOs that they explained during the press conference sounds terrible. That part they should have copied from Smash Bros. Here's hoping it's just one of many game modes.

Also, welcome to the console wars. Everything is going according to plan.

To me, it seemed like the only reason that mechanic is in the game is so that, when it is justifiably compared to Super Smash Brothers, they can say "nuh-uh, we're different, we have this!"

I really hope it's just one game mode, even though I have no interest in this game, simply for the sake of there being less shitty games out there.

Hi, I guess you're new here. Us gamers who stand by Nintendo (I'm not going to call myself a Nintendo fan, I love all systems equally), get the absolute shit end of the stick here.
We're treated with the most idiotic comments from people who have never played the games, looked down on when we buy a console that changes the way we play games rather than sticking to a formula, and are generally just treated like children.

So: No. If somebody rips off Nintendo this blatantly, you can bet we're gonna let the forum know when the other developers are full of shit.

Oh, and Old Republic is a clone of WoW (I've played both. No preference. After Everquest 2, I guess I'd gotten everything I wanted out of an MMO and generally can't stomach them for more than a month these days.) Seriously, give it a couple months and they'll remove the story elements from it too.
That's no excuse for sinking to the level of an Xbox Live troll. You also seem to have missed my point about an answer to not being a rip off. Seeing as the score system works differently, not to mention that the characters and stages have nothing to do with each other. Calling the game a comeplete rip off seems more like fanboyish insecurity that there might be a rival game that is as successful as a game you like.

After doing some research it sounds like this: to get points you need to KO another player. To do that you need to charge up your AP to perform a super move. You gain AP be damaging other players and lose it by getting damaged.

It doesn't sound to bad to me, it might make the game more accessible to people who haven't memorized a character's move set. Though if some of the first tier supers are overpowered then it could create a few balance issues.

I am a Nintendo fan. I think the Sony fighting game is a blatant Smash Brothers rip-off. And honestly, I have no problems with that. That was perhaps the best thing Sony could have done. It's not like we're being flooded with Smash clones, and Sony does have a diverse enough range of IPs to make an interesting cast.

Just save the hatred for when Microsoft tries to pull something like this. That would be everything the Nintendo fans think of PS Allstars.

Speaking of which, how are we gonna shortand the title of Playstation Allstars Battle Royale? Sounds like it should be PSASBR, but thats just a load of nonsense to me and i just came up with it.

It's not hating when you're pointing out how similar one game is to another. I thought it was a more realistic Brawl when I first saw it. Then I read that it'll involve PlayStation characters and whatnot but it still stands as a suspiciously similar substitute for Brawl.
And I still cannot bring myself to respect the PlayStation Move.

Err Nintendo fans are getting a bashing over the Wii U so it's not like you are the only group being attacked.

Also it pretty clear is a rip off. Doesn't mean it's bad or that I won't surpass the original but to pretend that Sony wasn't aware of SSB is pretty much an outright lie.

Couldn't agree more, we Nintendo fans are treated like lepers by this community for practically no reason. As if simply liking Nintendo makes me some kind of brainwashed, partially developed, nostalgia junkie. I'm not blind to Nintendo's failings, if anything I'm the first to criticize their bad decisions. But I don't discount their good ones either. Whenever Nintendo does something original it's either laughed at or called a gimmick, then when Nintendo does something tried and true their criticized for rehashing stuff. It's seems impossible for Nintendo to win at anything. So why the hell should SONY be given any slack?

However, if I made a fuss every time another developer stole an idea from Nintendo I'd have pulled out all my hair by now. So let's just say I don't really care about the game being a rip off, but have no sympathy for SONY being attacked by those who do care either.

Also, I see you haven't set an avater yet. Here's one you could use.

I just don't get why it's called PlayStation All-Stars. Then at the end they announce that you can play as a Big Daddy.

Not only was Bioshock released on PC, XBOX and PS3; the PS3 got their version two months later. The PC and 360 versions releasing each on August 17th, 2007 and the PS3 version releasing on October 17th, 2007.

I guess I just would have liked either Sony first party exclusives, or known characters that can well be attributed to getting famous on a Sony platform.
