Whatever, just wash your hands.
So Ive noticed something really effed up today, when I go to post and it does the spot check to "prevent spam" now I dont see a code, I see an ad that prompts me to go somewhere or something to get the damn code to post. What the fuck guys? Is this really the route that the escapist is taking? Just blatantly trying to dig into our wallets?

Funny you say that because I just tried it out and I've got a regular captcha.

Yeah I noticed it too, very annoying shit. I should not have to watch an advertisement to make a post. Oh and about the windows phone none the less, makes me want to go buy an iphone out of spite

They're just testing a new captcha, that's all. Half of the user base is getting the new ones, like that, the rest are getting the old ones.

The new ones were implemented because some complained that the old ones were becoming unreadable with Greek letters and stuff like that. Check the Tech Team user group out for more information on the matter.

Ah, that makes sense. I've seen quite a number of threads about this but hadn't encountered it myself.

I have seen some very humorous things: several Greek letters, a large number of accented letters, upsidedown letters, math symbols, and once Chinese characters. I wish it was something they were able to keep for new accounts but after a few hundred posts you were no longer bothered by it. I'm guessing something in the forum software requires that it's universal, which is a shame.

However whenever I get an odd CAPTCHA I just refresh for a new one, so far I haven't found it that bothersome.

I will accept the stupid random captchas since I'm too cheap to join the Publisher's Club. I do not like having to watch a god damn advertisement for Verizon when I want to post a comment, however.

Virgil at the Tech Team stated that way too many people were complaining about the ReCAPTCHA's being too hard to read, so he added several alternatives.

I've seen two so far -- one was wonderfully easy to read and type down, the other asked which phone can be used to connect to XBox Live.

So I hate the ones asking about products. A lot.

...But you're not paying anything...

Inconvenient maybe, but you're not actually paying for anything.

Not that I'm supporting this. Just.. I think you're silly.

How is that digging into your wallet?
I personally find that when my time is frittered away unnecessarily, I'm mildly annoyed. That said, I don't mind that they have ads elsewhere on this site. I just don't like that I'm required to watch, process, and comprehend the ad to answer the question. Especially if the ad is about a product I would have to try very hard to care less about.

Maybe it was just something you ate... Chill down on those mushrooms man!

It's probably some kind of coding error, or maybe it has to do with your screen resolution, I don't know. I don't suppose you have a print screen (screenshot) of the event?

I don't blame you for calling it annoying.

But there's something inherently wrong with the OP thinking that the Escapist is making him Pay for anything.

Second to most current news. They're testing different captchas, since the ReCaptchas have been been becoming increasingly more illegible (i.e. more foreign characters, math equations, etc.).

It doesn't make a discussion flow at all though
"So what are your thoughts on Mortal Kombat"
"Well I think it is... wait a minute an ad..."
"I noticed that too.. wait an ad..."
"This almost makes me want to make REAL LIFE friends. What is with that?!"
