I don't mean fighting games, but a game about a character's personal journey through mastering his chosen martial art, and obtaining inner peace or something. Use twin analog sticks to help him through an exercise and master a new self defense technique, to fighting inside the character's mind, using said martial arts to battle mental demons who wish to stop your quest for serenity...
If they made this as a sequel to Jade Empire I would give Bioware all of the money. Especially if they actually fleshed out Closed Fist and Open Palm.
I know, right? I think it'd be an amazing game if done well. I also think BioWare or Obsidian would be the companies to pull it off.

Something like Abe's Oddysey/Exoddus. Where you aren't some sort of crazed gunman/assassin/the chosen one (I know Abe was a bit of a 'chosen one', but he didn't just run around 1 shotting everything at least), but you are a captive/slave and have to escape a stronghold/sabotage it from the inside.
I don't know what I'd call the setting, probably an "inescapable fortress of non-human rights-ness"

Edit: Oh yeah, and a kind of bleak, industrial one like the Oddworld games, I can't think of many games that do exactly that.

I'd appreciate a filter that lets you control the bloom level and... wait you mean location um...

I think someone needs to come up with a game that takes place in a small town in Kansas or something that isn't a horror game. Find a way to make that exciting without playing on "small homey town gets warped to amplify emotion" card.

Egyptian/Arabian fantasy would be great.
I can see a massive amount of potential in it. The lore is almost untapped in video gaming, the gods and beliefs would both be a breath of fresh air to the constant western/eastern fantasy games, and the land itself, with the constantly shifting sands would make for some great terrain to play on.

Steampunk games. We talk about them all the time but they never really get anywhere. That's why I think Bioshock: Infinite is a milestone.

Middle-Eastern Fantasy. Genies and flying carpets, all that good Arabian Nights stuff.
Ever heard of Magic Carpet 2? It's an old game that practically nobody knows about that's friggin amazing, and it's set in the setting you're talking about. Developed by Bullfrog.

Those first two settings, you would probably only survive the first few seconds, even on the easiest difficulty! I would hate to see an imperial guardsman fighting off the forces of chaos with all the demons cranked up to nightmare mode.
Holy shit. That would be awesome.
Itd be like for example in SR3 where you jump into traffic to see how badly you can get fucked up.
Now imagine you go into battle and get brutally murdered and it shows your body get horribly mangled Happy Wheels style and it tells you how many enemies you managed to kill etc. Say you charge in flashlight flaring, you get hacked by a Ork and before you die you trigger your frags, then it shows you killed 2 orks, wounded another, killed 5 gretchins, and killed 17 other imperial guardsman around you when you blew.
So you start off with a huge battle and you keep taking over guardsman after guardsman trying to whittle down the enemy until only one side is left.

And imagine the boss battles. You get impaled by a Carnifex, your corpse stuck on its claw softens a blow meant for a space marine so he survives and manages to inflict X damage on it before dying himself.
A Grey Knight is fighting a Bloodthirster. You blind it for a second with your flashlight allowing the GK to get a hit in and then when it turns away to brutally slaughter you with a single glare the GK manages to land a critical hit and cut off its pinky finger. So your heroic sacrifices contribution to victory was a bloodthirsters pinky finger.
Itd be a hilarious example of just how worthless Guardsmen are.

Post-apocalypse. Like, WAY post-apocalypse. When people aren't just fighting to survive; they're rebuilding. Also with more green; I loved the way Enslaved did this.

Ooh I would really enjoy this as well. I really loved the feel of the Oddworld games (only played the first, but still).

Survival horror in a war setting such as WWI would be awesome as previously posted. I think a similar horror title would be cool in Vietnam, although zombies would be boring in that setting, but some other kind of survival horror would be cool in a Vietnam war setting.

I would like to see more Renaissance settings, it was a time of great change for all people. With Technology advancing religions rising and falling, mans power over the elements.

and i want to give a shout out to, THE SHIVERING ISLES. Its so bright and colorful and full of lore with an amazing Deadric prince with a Scottish accent ruling it whose toughest decisions are whether or not o make everyone water smell of elderberry's or grow moss on your tongue. Its insane, it has a cool mythos and lore, and an amazing list of characters.

Magical realism... or I guess Urban Fantasy? Also just Victorian in general, because it's so goddamn fancy.

There is "1916: Der Unbekannte Krieg" which translates to the Unknown War (or something like that). WWI, Survival Horror, with dinosaurs.

Saying that though, if you made the game in the style of battlefront 2.... So you pick a basic class (Heavy weapons team, Catachan etc.) then at a certain point in the map, hero units are unlocked, so you get to play as either a space marine, a baneblade, a grey knight, whatever that maps hero unit is. I think it would be fun. The only challenge would be surviving long enough to unlock the hero unit.

africa!! past or present..in the past theres all the kingdoms and such and in the present theres a selection of civil wars..i think this could be really cool...or maybe a game set in south africa ,capetown maybe, and have a story related to racism?

also middle eastern fantasy could be really cool aswell!
