it's not ruining games then, it's just making the sensitive freak out for no reasonRyanrulez5 said:does anyone else notice that most games with sex and nudity usually suck or have bad reviews or get controversed like mass effect it got good reviews but fox started braging about it because it showed 1 second of behind and it was rated 12 anyone else believe my theroy?

I have never ever heard that before. I never even looked at it that way when I was playing the game. Have you got a source for this? Could be interesting...Forlong said:Sex can ruin a game. There are cases when sex is in a game and it isn't detrimental. "Catherin" for one. That should be looked at as the example of how to use sex in video games, purely in a literary sense, I mean. Not necessarily show as much (or as little) as that game did, but using it as a story driving point within the game.
If using sex as a character building device, its better to be vague. Like in "Final Fanasy VII", before going into the final battle, Cloud and Tifa did it. The scene that was originally planned made it quite clear what the two did, but was thrown out in favor of a more vague scene, which turned out to be quite funny. Word of god says that they did do the deed, but the game itself leaves the possibility open-ended.
In games like Tomb Raider and Dead or Alive, sex becomes the driving force of the game rather than the actual gameplay.
One of the Mexican leaders is raping a woman when John walks in. Or rather, you can infer that he's raping her, since there's another scene where they round a couple of women up to be raped at a later date.solidsnake101023 said:I don't remember any rape scenes in Red Dead Redemption.consolemasterrace said:that rape scene in red dead redemption was pretty hot.
I think you'd struggle to find people who agree with that sentiment when it comes to Tomb Raider.Forlong said:In games like Tomb Raider and Dead or Alive, sex becomes the driving force of the game rather than the actual gameplay.
It also works very well.Kahunaburger said:Witcher 2, man. The intro is basically:Caffeine_Bombed said:Nobody 'needs' sex in a game and, specifically in the case of RPG's, I've yet to play one where it's something you can't avoid.

This is an area where I think that Witcher games are really underrated. Sex is generally a stepping stone to a relationship, not the other way around. So its less about "liek will Gerald and Triss have teh secks?" (Spoiler: YES.) and more about "is Gerald willing to commit to a relationship?" "Does (and should) Gerald trust Triss?" and so on.Section Crow said:sex in any game pretty much ruins the story for me as games i have played uphold it as the peak of romance, i mean in every game where there is a romance option that lasts the entire game it's always at the end and makes me think, hmm so i went through all those emotional boundaries and problems just so i could have sex?
and usually after it happens they suddenly become all mushy on you as if it is pinnacle moment for a couple to have sex, rather than having a good/bad relationship (which is why i enjoyed samara's rejection in mass effect 2) because of your intervention with your chosen person.
but hell, sex sells more than an actual romance and i'm probably narrowing it down to bioware romances passively.
edit: quick point, i don't mind sex in games as long as it is does well to a point where the character responds appropriately to it and actually helps the story plot.
Like what? I can't imagine it uses up a huge chunk of the budget to put a bit of sex in.Anthraxus said:It doesn't make me uncomfortable, it's just that the time and money put into that shit could be put to better use.Caffeine_Bombed said:To be fair, the only time I've ever heard of really explicit Japanese games is when I've seen them in a banned list.Anthraxus said:Ok, I'll play one of those screwed up Jap games then. Nobody 'needs' sex in a game and, specifically in the case of RPG's, I've yet to play one where it's something you can't avoid. So what makes you so uncomfortable about it?

This reviewer might have something to say about that.![]()
I can honestly say I have never noticed that. I've never played a game where sex scenes dominate the entire experience or drive the focus away from mechanics or combat.Anthraxus said:You think it's just a coincidence that the focus has moved away from deeper rpg mechanics/elements/combat systems to these interactive movies with romances ? You might as well just say "Cut out all sex scenes from books and movies" because they're wasting time and money too.
But like a couple of us have said already, in most games you generally aren't forced to have sex to complete the game, so why is it such a big deal? Taking away that ting scene isn't going to create a whole new gaming experience.
