pretty simple question, are you now "worse off" being a man thease days than being a woman? (you know, within reason in any 1st world society)

to be honest I always get tired of the stupid "men vs women" thing that tends to happen, I think once we got the whole "women should actually do shit other than be in the kitchen" then things get a little complex or end up in a grey area

(and of coarse all those wankers on certain sites I go to saying that ALL women are essentially manipualtive gold digging whores, I unsertand there is an issue but for fuck sake do they realise how stupid it is to say 51% of the world population is the SAME? could I say the ame about men? oh right they would disagree...of coarse, moral of the story stay away from mainstream opinion blogs...)

Two words. Affirmative Action. Makes it so much easier for any woman to find a good job than a man looking for the same.

Being a man actually worked out for me. Teaching was traditionally a job for women, and the realization of how male role models are important for male children has made it easier for a man to get a teaching job than a woman

Edit: I was wrong on teaching being a traditional job for women, but what worries me is that it is what I was taught

My opinion is that women have it worse. If it means that much to you, read the rest of what I posted on this thread as to why before quoting me with the same crap I already responded to.

Of course not. The only time it'd be worse being a man[sub]that I can think of now[/sub] is when you're being discussed by extreme feminists when you did X. And that's not that bad is it?[sub]Yeah I know there are more examples.[/sub]

I have no idea why everyone on the internet is so against feminism.
Well whenever feminism comes up it's seen as a bad thing when at it's core it's not as extreme as some people make it out to be. There are different kinds of feminism. Aren't they categorized in waves or something?

I learnt that on another forum! +1 Enlightenment.

The problem with these questions is that both sides argue feverishly until either they get annoyed or the thread dies.

OT: Yes in some ways and no in others. Personally, I find that in my school the fairer sex actually is treated better. Security lets females get away with things that would have a male student expelled. Teachers also tend to lean towards bumping a females grade more often than men. Not an argument. Just an observation.

For the most part, no, being a woman still have to put up with more than men do.

I wouldn't say that the tables have turned; even though it's more politically correct to be a misandrist, it seems that misogyny is still pretty rampant. Personally I think they're both terribly neanderthal views. I'm not going to get all up-in-arms if, for example, a man opens a door for me (I live in Texas, it happens) and start accusing him of assuming I'm too weak to open a door. Though... I think this view is really just women shooting themselves in the foot.

I think there's an equal amount of anti-men and anti-women sexism (I see a lot more anti-women but I'm on the internet a LOT and if I go one day without seeing a "make me a sammich" joke I think that the world population must have died), but misandry is in vogue and really I think a lot of that has to do with the LGBT movement. After all, with that you get the extremely vocal angry Uber Lesbians who think men are scum simply for having that stupid Y chromosome. I think it's a sort of "our female ancestors were oppressed so now we get to oppress you" revenge tactic which makes as much sense as a boat made out of saltine crackers. Yeah, stuff sucked for women way back whenever. Overall, it is not that bad... for either gender, really. It's predominantly opposing extremists blowing things out of proportion in my experience.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that there's no genuine sexism. There definitely is, on both sides. But if you take the extremists for both arguments out, neither side is really "worse off" than the other.

Because of feminazis. I know the movement, as a whole, demands equality, but them dumbshits are looking for supremacy.

Anyway, getting a job as an engineer (especially electrical engineering) is much easier as a woman. This is an unfortunate problem that we currently face.
Being the lazy, never-had-a-summer-job bastard that I am, I don't know much about affirmative action and all that, but is it really worse than having a worse biological setup (periods, pregnancy...), more prone to receiving violence (rape, spousal abuse...), and several other things I could mention, but am too lazy to elaborate on(lower income, larger share of housework, media problems, more strict social standards)?

I feel that we are finally at a point where people receive equal pay for equal work. I cant speak for companies that I have never worked for, but I have yet to run into any counterexamples. Of course most women will tell me Im wrong, and that they are getting screwed, but they need to realize that in many situations they are genuinely not worth as much as their co-workers who are getting paid more; and no one wants to admit that. Also, bring money into any discussion, and everyone will act like they are a victim.

I have worked in many places where women simply can't or dont put out the same performance men do. Its a fact of life. I have also been able to look in from the outside at situations where females do better work and/or have greater success, and guess what, they get paid more than men in those jobs. Some of it is statistics based on market research but that only determines starting pay. In any company that isnt run by a narrow minded bigot, advancement is based on performance and actual success.

If anyone feels like they are not being treated fairly at all, let alone based on race or gender, I encourage you to change your situation. Im a white male, and Iv had jobs where I was not treated fairly. Its not always easy, and sometimes not remotely an option, but if you can, find a better job. Leaving the job that treated me poorly was one of the best decisions Iv ever made for myself.

Well, yeah, but women still have their own crap to put up with too. There's always going to be unfair or special treatment given to one gender or the other.

Um, yeah you could. If you went by a case by case basis, I'm definitely sure you could find a situation where a man is dealing with unfair treatment based on his gender.

Since the ideal societal situation concerning gender involves ignoring gender entirely, it's probably best never to discuss the matter.

We're still paid less than men in almost every profession, and our careers are still based in our looks. Even if your potential boss is a woman, you are judged on looks more than credentials. To a woman boss, you can't be sexy, but if you're not attractive, other people will judge the woman who hired them.

We also still deal with sexism in the workplace. People automatically assume any man is your boss, and you will have your looks commented on daily.

I'm a librarian. It is usually seen as a woman's job. Men are still paid more to work the same job, even if they are hired by women. My looks are also, for some reason, part of my work.

Also, mention 'librarian' to a man and they automatically picture heels, pencil skirts, frilly white blouses, glasses, and a woman letting down her bun so a wave of hair sweeps across her face. ... Sorry, my hair is angled and purple. Not kidding when I say people ask me if I play 'sexy librarian' in the bedroom. Actual, real men have point blank asked that.

Call that reverse sexism?

There's a whole raft of bullshit in society that women are forced to think about and factor into their daily lives that men don't even have to give two shits about. It's definitely a better deal being a man. There are some perks to being female as well but you get the short end of the stick far more often as a woman so it's sensible to grab any advantages you can get.

I should probably fix that; I meant to put that it doesn't occur in the same amounts/to the same degree but couldn't fit it in that sentence without the sentence getting too cluttered.

Wait a second, back that train up.
Worse biological setup? What about testicular and prostate problems, they kill a fair amount of men each year. Also what about guys having that lovely extra problem of being prone to certain types of hernias due to the male set up?
More prone to violence? Last I checked in domestic cases women actually hit more often, it just happens that when guys hit they do more damage.
Lower income, a bit debatable, aren't women now the majority in a lot of high paying professions such as doctors, lawyers and whatnot?
Media problems? Please elaborate, because last I checked women in the media get away with a lot of crap that guys don't. An old guy calls some women nappy headed and a lynch mob goes after him. A bunch of women make fun of and demean a guy who gets his penis cut off by a spouse and its hilarious and "you go girl". If a guy did the same, he would be out of a job permanently in any media, but for women hey its cool because its empowering to them.
