First, this is not a discussion of "Love", as sexual attraction and love are 2 separate issues. It is possible for someone to love people of any gender without sex being an issue, so this is strictly a topic on " sexuality".

Now with Pharmaceutical manufacturers having adverse sexual side effects on their warning lables and lawsuits such as this, where a man claims their medication turned a heterosexual man into a gay sex addict and gambler, in combination with the studies on mice that have allowed them to impact sexuality through controlling chemical levels in the brain, that it is possible that sexuality may become a treatable medical conditon, such as ADHD, or anxiety.

This leaves the big question:

If it was determined with advancements in medicine, that homosexuality was determined by a chemical imbalance in the brain, do you think that a treatment should be made available to the public on a volunatry basis?

Also what kind of impact would this have on the homosexual community, relationships, and lifestyles?

I am not saying this has been determined,or if it is even ethical to do so. But as advancements in medicine push forward, it is conceivable that they could essentially make medications that would guide sexuality in the future, and it is interesting to see how the general public would respond to such advancements.

I'm going to go ahead and ignore the implications of your phrasing and point out the other big question: Could a 'gay pill' be made with the same science? I rather think this would be a brilliant solution for people who enjoy sex, but never want to have children and/or don't get along well with the opposite sex.

I don't think they were trying to play god when they were treating that man and it turned him into a gay sex addict. However, the impact on whether or not someone should be given a choice as to what sexuality they wish could change much in our society.
1)Is it playing god to give them a choice?
2) wouldn't it be imposing anothers religious beliefs onto another by not allowing them to have a choice in the first place?

I am sure they could make a " gay pill" if it is simply altering chemical levels in the brain. I guess there could be a " nympho pill" too. LOL

Fucking disgusting. When will humanity quit playing God?
We won't because we ARE God. Stop the whining.

Back on topic:

I would gladly have my sex-drive temporarily put on hold if the side-effects only came down to me not caring to have a partner of either sex.

So much frustration could be avoided in our lives if we could just tell our sex drives to go sit quietly in a corner for an extended period of time.

Probably when god actually says not to. People DO hold themselves as the highest authority in the world...which can get pretty sad at times.

If people want it, sure why not? I'm sure there are loads of gay people out there who feel that they would much rather be straight.

Well, great I suppose.

All we'd need now is a perfected sex-change procedure that does not end with you turning into an illusion of the opposite sex, but the real deal.
Than, people would truly be allowed to live as they please. (I think.)

If an anti-gay pill were designed, I could see religious organizations forcing their members to take it. It would open an entirely new world of fear and hate for homosexuals. It would set human rights back about 300 years. In other words... fuck that.
There are plenty of medications currently on the market today that would make their followers completely celebate and compliant, but you do not see them forcing them to take those medications. LOL

Not to mention that is completely illegal to force anyone to do any such thing. That is ridiculous. I would argue, that not allowing people voluntary access to a medication that would give them a choice in sexuality would be more of a human rights violation than having it available.

Who decides this for them? You? Or should the choice be given to the individual?

Would it be wrong for someone to voluntarily without ANY outside pressure to decide to take the pill to alter sexuallity? I cant say yes. But my worry is the abuse of said pill. I would prefer a pill to become straight, gay and bi all be simutaneously made and released. In case of any shadyness by parents/religious groups/bigots, e.t.c.
Id rather it not be made, but Id feel like a hypocrite to forbid something to change yourself so radically.

When the playing ends and the being begins.

OT: I'm worried most about who would actually choose to take these things and how many parents are going to have their kids take it.

I can see the implications for certain groups if a pill can outright alter your sexual preference was made.

However... it would prove that people didn't choose their orientation and it was part of how their brain was wired.

Personally I only hope they finish work on a pill that increases libido. A lot of people would probably buy it and spike their SO's drink/food with it though.

I dont know if that would be right....and if ALOT of gay people started taking it, then others might follow suit out frustration for not being able to find a partner

Just so you know, transsexualism and homosexuality are not the same thing. For example, there can be men wanting to be lesbians because they hate men.

They wish to cure us, but I say to you, we are the cure!

I don't see this going down too well. I mean, if it is chemical, then it is chemical- if sexuality is a thing that can be changed, then I have no problem with it being an option. Thing is, if it were an option, you know how many parents would take their "sick" teenagers to get the treatment? It's sort of an ugly idea, or at least one with unpleasant potential.

If all heterosexual people became gay, human life would be destroyed in a generation.

If all homosexual people became straight, no adverse effects would be had.

Not soapboxing here, just pointing it out.
