Meh. Yet another game that can't animate melee combat worth a damn.
@Zhukov
have you seen Kingdom Come: Deliverance? think you might like that melee combat.

Seen bits and pieces of it.

Keeping half an eye on it. Not getting excited just yet, but it's potentially interesting.

So I finished playing Shadow Warrior 2 and I must say it is a Very Good game, but with some specific problems I had with the it:

Pros:
- In the first hours you would not even notice it have random generated stages which it is good giving the illusion that you play unique stages each time.
- The controls are wonderful and Wang can literally "fly" across a stage if you do it right.
- Big variety of weapons and enemies which is a plus for making the game more enjoyable.
- The weapons are a joy each time you get a new one. From a simple pistol to a bazooka made of mutated flesh and bones.
- A surprisingly satisfying lore. The game take place 5 years after the events of the first game, so it have many kind of informations of different event took place before the actual game. Also it have also commentary of Wang for the weapons and enemies he saw in the game. Some of them are funny.
- Wang as a character is always a joy each time he opens his mouth insulting anyone who hate and love.
- Chainsaws and Shotguns are the best weapons indeed.
- Smith, Hideo and Larry are real bros yo.
- The Final Boss Battle was EPIC AS F*CK!!

Cons:
- The girl you follow Wang is a terrible companion. She is the angry cliche character which I personally DESPICE with the power of 1000 suns. Hope to not see her ever again.
- Some other characters I also dislike [not as much as the red girl], but I won't mention because spoilers.
- The Superior and Elite .enemies are sadly like other said bullet sponges. They don't offer something unique on the table for you to do and they drag a fight unesseccery too long...
- also the "unimportant" sub-bosses don't have a different look by the common enemies. Only thay theu are slightly more bigher which os booooring!
- The gems are good and useful, but most of the time are just get in the way to enjoy the game as a pure FPS game.
- The story isn't very good sadly...
- The sub-missions story wise are even worse.
- You will eventually see sadly the repetitive nature of the levels after mamy hours of gameplay.

So I really enjoy it, but I hope to being again the claasic formula on the table with the same amount of weapons and enemies.
8/10.

Currently 4-5 hours in. It's a weird bastardized game like i feared it was, and i'm still trying to decide if i like it or not tbh.

But so far i think its safe to say i really did prefer shadow warrior 1, that game knew what it was trying to be. This is one weird frankenstein of a game where pacing feels awkward and im not particularly enjoying the weapon upgrade system.

I'm also playing on normal difficulty and not regretting it, enemies are bullet spongey as it is, id hate to see what its like on higher difficulties.

Its really not what you think it is, I honestly wouldn't have even known the maps were randomly generated if I never heard of it as they still play and feel like something originally made (which I think is the case as it sounds like the random parts are minor and only related to the side quests)

The loot system and RPG mechanics are also just there for you to create your own playstyle with and not something like an end goal where you start off weak and have to grind gear and levels to actually amount to something, instead you already start as a badass, monster killing ninja and just go from there.

I don't want to be that annoying contrarian (though it's a role i seem to be playing more and more on this site) but i really have to be one here: i disagree, very respectfully, but disagree big time.

You can feel when the levels are copy pasted almost from the get go because of how nonsensical they are and random they feel. If you enjoy exploring and discovering secrets, it's painfully obvious which levels are random because there is no internal logic and secrets/items are in "illogical" places due to the random container/secret placement. And then there's the random beautification objects placed in weird places, you will see japanese shrines randomly surrounded by 2 broken shacks like you will see two checkpoints two meters away from each other.

Try comparing one of the preset story levels with the side missions, and tell me with a straight face you don't feel a big shift in level design and object placement. This killed the fun of exploring levels for me and i stopped bothering to do so in side missions, just focusing on the main objectives because the level design of the side mission felt all wrong to me. And again im normally the kind of dude who likes exploring levels and discovering secrets because usually they follow some kind of logic, however warped, and once you're in the mindset of the person who hand placed the secrets, it becomes a fun process.

Also i (respectfully) disagree with the whole "make your own style" pr sell. You know what my style is? Assault rifles and uzis. I can't go through the game like that, enemies even on easier difficulties eat up too much ammo even though i upgraded all the ammo capacity/finding stuff, and have ammo replenishing perks. So no, im forced to switch weapons (not saying it's a bad thing per day though) a lot to cycle through my ammo counters, or even save ammo by using melee when i can. And if you get all the magic focused skills, good luck trying to be a magic focused character, it just doesn't work, and ultimately you can't tell me with a straight face shotguns ain't king in SW 2, especially with how fast and in face enemies get.

They handled this character in a weird way, i feel they tried to replicate the chemistry of lo wang with his original ghost demon buddy from the previous game, but failed hard.

At first when she "wakes up" in your head she starts out normal, being all confused and actually almost funny ("Eugh i cant see anything.." "well have you tried opening your eyes?").
Then she immediately goes into angry ***** mode, like as if she knew you (when she doesnt) and just remains in ***** mode for the rest of the game.
It's weird because hoji from the previous game had a buildup, he knew you a bit before merging souls, and most importantly READ YOUR MIND, he knew how to take the piss out of lo wang in a more natural manner becaue of it.

This new chick doesn't have the same buildup yet almost immediately starts treating you like someone she is familiar with, rather then discovering how much of a dumbass lo wang is and getting frustrated at him over time in a natural manner, she goes from total stranger to knowing you super well almost immediately is what im saying and it felt really glaring and forced because of it.

Still am only a few hours in, so maybe she gets better? xD

Epic Legendary Snip of Snipness
Truth to be told I pay more attention firstly to the gameplay, weapons and enemies, then to my surroundings. That why after I get enough weapons and saw all the enemies types, I notice heavily how repetitive is sadly. The same problem had even Diablo 3....

About creating your personal playstyle with your arsenal you get, I am 50/50 on this subject.
I finished the Story Campaign having in my main arsenal a Sword, a Chainsaw, a Plasma Shotgun, a Plasma Rifle, a Raygun, a Flesh-made Bazooka, a Bone Rifle and of course the legendary Minigun [Z + Minigun = SLAUGHTER!].
It is not imposible to create your personal arsela as you like, but you must put accordingly the skill points to specific type of ammo you want to carry more with you and skill point to get more ammo from your enemies. Except of course if you are a meele guy/girl, so no problem here. Everyone LOVE to use the Chainsaw even a little. I LOVE my LumberJackSaw so much.

Yes, f*ck that ch*ck! I hope to rot into "not good developed characters" Hell forever!
Hijo was a FAR more important and enjoyable companion for Wang from the first game. Wang even change his normal attitute to become more serious and help Hijo with his personal quest. Like real bros do.
But with the red girl? Wang was totaly ok be all the time salty and insulting her. She literally was all the time angry.
a Tsundere character without to get to f*ck her!!!

And no, she doesn't get better in the end....
