i dont care im not doing haloween this year
that part of me snapped when my awesome Ghost rider costume lost to a small girl (as in a child) in her pajamas during a costume contest then i totally stopped paying attention

but by your explanation yes its the girl's fault, and i honestly dont think its a bad thing showing skin doesnt mean sex and frankly i hate that we call it "Sexy"

I never really understood the appeal for Halloween since where I'm from it's not really mentioned much except by a few Americans (and Europeans to I think) that live there. I had heard lots of stuff about it though and when I came to the USA my opinion changed dramatically. Not that i didn't enjoy the candy and the other candy (eye candy)but it's just another excuse for people to drink and party and do stupid shit and for girls to dress like sluts (which happens all the time anyway). I went trick or treating once and never looked back after that. But hey, Halloween means cheesy horror movie marathons and an excuse for me to satisfy my sweet tooth so its not so bad, I mooch off of this Holiday like I do for Christmas and every other holiday celebrated in this country even though i don't celebrate it.

When girls have talked to me about their costume they either ask if they should make it slutty or not or say a list of what they might be with slutty before it. Slutty nurse, slutty maid etc.

Obviously I say yes to it because I like boobs.

But enough from me. What do you think? Has Halloween become too sexualized? Wait, don't answer that, I already know it has. Whose fault is it then? And how can we get the scary back?
Seriously, it is the women's goddamn fault for wanting to dress up like that.
Meh I kinda enjoy the sexualization of Halloween (YOU ALL DO! ADMIT IT!), but I doubt we will be getting the Scary back anytime soon seeing as how most new horror movies are complete rubbish, but let's hope we can Actually bring back the True Meaning of Horror sometime soon!!
No, actually I do not enjoy the sluttiness at all. It's just stupid. I had some people in my school dress as: a maid, something that involved a skirt about 2 inches in height, and "a naughty schoolgirl." It was just embarrassing.

I don't particularly want halloween to "get the scary back." As it stands, it's one of the only times of the year that it's socially acceptable to not be yourself, a modern carnivale. Perhaps if we got actual worlwide or local carnivale dates (like 2 or 3 a year,) then Halloween could become the festival of scares once again. But until then, I don't think it should become a really scary festival-holiday thing.
But either way, the stupid slutty costumes have to go.

I'm not sure what's wrong with seeing chicks in slutty outfits. Hell, most of the time my wife wears a cute little sweater and slacks outfit.

The leather clad dominatrix look is definitely a sweet change of pace!

Why does everyone always treat things like this like a problem? I just don't get it.

What it use to be? You ask a few people I know and what it used to be was a day for devil worshipping, apparently they called it Devil's day (or something) and no one is forcing these women to wear the costumes!! They can make a costume for themselves for fuck sakes
Halloween is not the day for devil worshiping. Its the day we remember our passed loved ones, and dress up as monsters to laugh at the things we fear. In the old folklore about jack of the latern, Jack defeated THE DEVIL. the only reason people think its devil worshiping is because christian extremist forgot the old ways and thought the kids were dressing up to worship demons.

OT:As for who's fualt it is for sexualizing it... The costume Business... Sex sells and so do sexy costume, S+SC=$$$, So women started buying the sexy costumes and it became a hit.

I'm in Britain

The only trick-or-treaters are the little kids in their adorable costumes and a couple of 13-year-old girls dressed up (originally) as cats and mice

actually, no, they're dressed up as burlesque dancers with cat ears. That's not a cat you prats

*sigh* I think I'll just move to America each October for Halloween

...AT LEAST WE GOT BONFIRE NIGHT! Fireworks galore without the nationalism of July 4th!

...although, as a Catholic, I shouldn't really be celebrating it...

Those slutty costumes are in all the shops because that's what sells. Nothing more complicated like that. If a woman wants to dress like a slutty nurse/vampire/occupational psychologist then that's her prerogative.

As some have already said, it is the woman's decision of whether or not she wants to dress provocatively. I don't mind if women want to show a little skin. Plus if you don't want to look like a slut just make your own costume.
Or just buy one that isn't slutty. I checked, they do exist

I thought Halloween was about eating sickening amounts of candy in weird/funny/sexy costumes.

People decide what costumes they wear, and those types of costumes become the norm. Girls liked to wear slutty costumes, therefore more slutty costumes were made.

If anything, it's women who are responsible for the increase of slutty costumes.

Look around you. Everything today is "sexed up", for both genders and in most places. It's just how our not-so-old liberal society is. If people wants to be hawt, let them be hawt. I just hope there are some cutie outfits left for me come christmas that DOESN'T make me look like a 2 dollar whore...

I'm sorry to inform you, but if women want to dress like "sluts", it's their own choice and their right.
Also, I'm guessing you're from the US?
Hah, well, let me tell you. Where I live, most girls (girls as in 16+) already dress extremely provocatively.

This made me think of a bit from Farscape

It starts at about 7:40 in this video (if someone finds a better clip of just that part please tell me).

Yeah, but should we be enabling them by saying that halloween's basically good for dressing as slutty as possible? Sure, girls wear provocative clothing, but nothing like what goes on during halloween. This seems like a weak argument.

And no, I'm from Canada.

Thou hast not witnessed the horror that is an obese woman in a corset 2 sizes too small. That which has been seen can not be unseen......
