I'm currently playing Dishonored and figured I'd like to read about stuff that happened to other players during the game. I mean little stories or experiences you had that while playing that emerged from the gameplay itself, as opposed to the game's written narrative.

I'll start with what happened to me last night playing the Lady Boyle mission.
When I entered the mansion, I had a chat with a couple of the other guests, and came upon the 3 different Lady Boyles. (Boyle's?)

I learn that the second floor is off limits to guests, because it's where all the loot is, and Lady Boyle made a point to hire the City Guard to keep guests out of there. Also, in the central hall, the stairs to the second floor were protected by a wall of light. Everywhere there were overseers with their instrument that negate my powers when playing their tune.

As I looked for an alternative way to the second floor, I found a little stairway with fewer guards. I took a look and slipped away, up the stairs. But I was seen by a guard, and I quickly moved up in case he went to pursue me. He didn't though, so he must've thought it was nothing.

Let me mention that I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and have been playing stealth. It's not a strict no-kill run, but I'm trying to keep kills and even take-downs to a minimum.

So here I am on the second floor. There are about 4 - 5 guards patrolling the area. I move around looking for loot and mission clues. With my dark vision this is child's play and soon I figure out which Lady Boyle my target is. As soon as I read the relevant mission clue, the interface pops up a pointer showing me her location. I also learn that she's willing to sleep with the first (and second) man who asks to bed her tonight. Perfect.

I make my way downstairs, and as soon as I'm on the first floor again, the game tells me that I'm not trespassing anymore. Good. I walk into the party and OH MY GOD ALL THE GUARDS ARE AFTER ME! The overseer plays his tune and I can't blink away. This took me totally by surprise and I didn't know why or what to do. I quickload and try the same a couple of times more, but they always see me as an intruder now! I didn't get caught taking any guard down, or stealing loot, so why?

It must have been the guard who saw me go upstairs. He didn't forget, and know every guard in the area knew I was an intruder. Great. I don't want to bother replaying the mission (my last save was a the beginning of the mission), so I decided to cope with the situation.

I move about on the second floor, waiting for my target to get near. When she's at about 30m from me, I possess a guest below me. I hardly used possession up to this point. Doing a heavily stealthy run always trying not to do anything to anyone (except stealing loot, collecting charms and runes and fulfilling my mission objetives), severely limits my arsenal of powers. I usually use blink, dark vision, and....that's it. It's quite minimalistic.

So I am possessing this dude, and it's a weird feeling. I walk up to Lady Boyle, slip out of the guy, turn towards her and attack her with my sword in the middle of the party! The game goes all slow motion as I bury the blade in her belly, pulling her towards me in a fatal embrace. Then I push her away, a lifeless corpse crumbling to the ground. I don't know how many guards saw me, but I immediately use my slow-time power to buy me some time to assess the situation. 2 guards are running towards me. I look for the main entrance and it isn't too far away. An overseer is standing in the way though. Maybe I can blink there before the song can rob me of my powers.

It works, I blink twice while everything around me is slowed, and then time goes back to normal, I hear shots and get hit, but I sprint for my life. I reach the door and exit! Meanwhile, the game shows me Lady Boyle's portrait and crossing it out. "Target Assassinated".

Outside, the guards don't seem to know what just happened. I wonder why, and stand still for a few seconds, but no time! Guards from inside are coming out the door and immediately move to attack me. I blink all over the court yard and gardens, and find a fence. My mana is finished, and I sprint and climb a piece of wall. I'm out.

Down in the streets, 2 tallboys are patrolling and one sees me. I panic and try to blink to a nearby balcony, but I mess up and fall down, hitting the pavement hard. A tallboy fires at me and I sprint away, blinking around a corner and looking for a place to blink up to. I find one as the tallboy comes around the corner. I drink a mana potion and possess the tallboy. Wow, I can do that???

Controlling a tallboy is fun and weird, like walking on stilts. I see the river and walk towards it. I get as close as I can and dispossess and immediately blink away while the tallboy is feeling ill. I jump into the river and swim to Samuel. Mission accomplished.

There really wasn't enough "choice" for me to have a specific story.

Although, I suppose I have one dumb-luck thing which I thought was awesome/hilarious.

when I poisoned Overseer Campbell, I was hiding under the table. I was in just the perfect spot that when he falls to the floor and says, "I never liked you..." the animation made it seem like he looked up right at me and reached out a hand before collapsing on the floor (he doesn't, I replayed the mission and hid somewhere else, I was just in a very lucky spot).

This made me feel pretty badass. In his dying moments, Campbell caught a glimpse of me sitting beneath his office table, watching him die. And it was like he knew who I was, mask or no.

And then, of course, I picked his body up when everyone else left the room and laughed as I tossed his corpse out the window two stories down to the pavement in front of them main entrance to the building.

Also, in the building next to Lady Boyle's estate that's full of all the Weepers, I didn't know there were Weepers in there, so when I first entered the top floor, I grabbed the items and then ran into the hall and blinked to the bottom of the building. Scared the shit out of me, like eight or nine of the buggers.

I had a pretty hilarious moment at the end of the first mission, a guard and his dog thing were walking around while I was on the rooftop. I sleeping darted the dog and the guard freaked out and ran around trying to find me. Unfortunately for him he ran his ass straight into a whale oil tank and ended up blowing himself up. I was laughing my ass off it was hilarious.

My funniest moments involved multiple dead/unconcious bodies.

At the lady boyle mission, all three of the guards I encountered made the same mistake of walking into the ornament room alone. One by one they were knocked out, and thrown into the empty fireplace I was hiding in. That's gotta be one awkward as hell wake-up call.

Then there was the time I knocked out one dude, and then the tons of guards in the area were alerted to my prescence. I got out my sword and pistol and killed them all, leaving a pile of dead guys on top of the singular lucky sleeper.

He probably woke up and was told by a Gnome that he was "The fateless one".

My funniest moment was when a guard carrying a whale oil barrel saw me creeping along, carrying a dead body. He immediately dropped the barrel to pull out his sword and attack me, and it exploded at his feet. But it had that perfect moment of us just looking at each other for a second before he reacted - I hadn't even moved whilst I watched him blow himself up.

Also, here is me plugging my own review, because relevance: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.391371-Woodsey-Weviews-DishonoUred

You should all comment it and reminisce about my pretty face, yes?

I think my favorite thing was during the Pendleton Brothers Quest

i was on a No-Kill play through and got to the golden cat, without to much trouble, looking at the building i decided the roof was the best way in so i went to the highest window and snuck in, i look around to make sure there are no guards, there arn't, so i look for things to steal, there's 3 rooms, one is locked, so i go to the open one, a maid is dusting so i knock her out to loot the room and get her key, i open the next door and HOLY SHIT its Emily,

i without even looking for her manage to find the little girl i was here to rescue, we embrace and she tells me she knows how to escape and before asking me if its safe, shes off at 150mph, i have no idea if the stairwell is safe, or where the VIP area was safe, so i decided to follow her and improvise if shit hits the fan, luckily it doesn't, we get to the door, and find out its locked, YAY,

So i go back upstairs and find the madam looking into a mirror, i dont risk knocking her out, the area seams too open so i nick the key and leave, return to emily who after i unlock the door tells me she knows the way from here, my first thought is wait, you know how to get to that shitty guard ridden river from here, i dont even know where here is? but she's gone before i can voice my concerns, i continue on my quest to neutralism the pendeltons

I was dicking around in the party mission when I pulled put my crossbow. All the guards were chasing me so I was c=firing randomly and happened to get the target which was nice. I reloaded for a serious try later though and found the stalker guy that you can give her to absolutely hilarious.

In the second-to-last mission there are a couple of guards talking.

"... he's probably watching us right now, crouched in the shadows with that bloody skull mask of his. Watching, waiting, and before you know what's happening... wham!"

I blink into the air a few meters above him and drop-kill him. The other guard he was talking to runs for his life.

Then I hit quickload because I'm going for a pacifist run. (Although I must have killed someone somewhere, because the game didn't give me the achievement for it.)

I'll post a short story that I told my friends :
I sneaked in a brothel following the rafters from a nearby hotel, jumped and teleported across the roofs, jumped on a guard and killed him, hiding his body. Then I teleported back to the roof, entered the hotel, jumped on a chandelier, killed a guard, opened some doors, -possessed a rat-, piloted that rat to the room where my target was, then killed my target, disabled his mistress, moved to the other room trough the window, disabled the madam of the brothel and rummaged trough her stuff for clues, disabled a guard that was standing near a window and threw him in the river to drown, teleported to a nearby rafter, broke a window and killed my other target by a crossbow shot to the neck, disabled his mistress so she can't call for help, killed a guard quietly, sneaked across the rafters to the main entrance, climbed up the building, opened a window, entered trough the top floor into the brothel again, disabled a chamber maid so she can't raise the alarm, stole a key to the VIP back door, saved the little Lady princess and took a boat ride back to the headquarters!
Then again, there was this time at Lady Boyle's party where I acted just like an ordinary guest. After I've located the lady, I followed her to the bathroom, after which I killed her ( the animation made it look like I hugged her ). Then I hid her body and signed "Corvo Attano" on the guest registry, and left the party like a boss. Felt quite badass, that touch with the guest registry.

There was one mission where I took out a tallboy (because doing that is badass) and then blinked away. After the initial shock from the guards, they started going off and doing their own thing. After a little while of me sneaking through rooms and trying to find things, I happened to go back outside where the tallboy's corpse was.
However, now there are a bunch of rats devouring it (Who I had absolutely no part in bringing out there).

There were three guards trying to attack the rats up close, and several trying to shoot them from afar, but ended up shooting the other guards instead. Then more guards ran up to the rats, who were also shot by the other guards. I'm not sure exactly how many people died thanks to this artificial stupidity, but it was enough for me to get the Manipulator achievement (get 5 guys to be killed by their allies) without trying.

The overseer mission, managed to knock out both Campbell and Curnow, hid Curnow in the corner and picked up the 'Seer to be on my way. So here I am, jumping along on the lights and such, when I see a guard below me. I think to myself "I'll just put this guy down and choke this guard" so I instinctively press F. The High Overseer slides off the light happy as can be and smacks into the ground head first. "Mission Accomplished - Target Eliminated"...D'oh.

If you did anything to Granny Rags in the sewers other than pickpocket the key and run, the game is bugged and counts it as a kill, even if you just knocked her out. It's a bit of a drag.

Huh.

Yeah, I did notice some weirdness at that point. For example, if I agreed to kill Slackjaw, but then just took the key she gave me and legged it, the game would count it as a kill.

I ended up siding with Slackjaw, then choking out Granny. (Then tranq darting Slackjaw just for a hoot.) The game gave me a tick for no kills at the end of the mission. But no 'Clean Hands' achievement at the end.

Ah well. Maybe it was the bug you describe. I'll experiment a bit with it.

Well, one of the most recent cool things that happened to me in the game was when I was sneaking around the Lord Regent's castle. I got spotted by a guard. Thing was, the guard was carrying a thing of whale oil, so when he saw me, he dropped it and killed himself. That little problem took care of itself. :p

Hey!

Now my moment is no longer special - spoil sport! Although I am wondering if its a programmed quirk or a physics spike. Normally whale oil drums don't 'splode from that height.

It's been reported on the internet a few times. I had the same problem as you, so I stopped time, pickpocketed the key, freed Slackjaw, and ran. When I finished the game again after that, I got the achievement.

There were some little things that I really liked. One was an easter egg of what I'm guessing was Thief, where you could watch Daud's assassin's training. I stumbled upon it by accident and laughed for about five minutes.

My first [and as yet only, but more to come] playthrough at this point was high-chaos, because I fell in love with shadow kill very early on. So I decided to have lots of fun at locations. In the bathhouse, I killed every guard save one, which I knocked out, and placed him in the Ivory Room with about twenty unconscious prostitutes. He's gonna have some 'splaining to do.

At the Lady Boyle party, I was talking to the guests and almost all of them mentioned how bored they were. So I gave them a show. I killed all of the guards in the main hall, with most of the guests watching. I also attempted to choke out a couple civilian ladies, but let go so they could get a good hit in. They'll have that story to tell forever :D

I think it was on the first mission I was being chased by guards so I slid under these boxes where I thought I was hidden but nope all the guards saw me and blocked of all the places I could escape while they jabbed their swords at me. So I was kind of stuck there. It was fun.
