So here's one for fans of atmosphere: Hide. It doesn't rely on any jump-scares, just heaps of atmosphere and it works quite well. Simple premise, there are spots hiding on the map you must reach while evading something that is chasing you; hard to tell what from the strange growls and undefined appearance. It's a puzzle/adventure game where you play a cat and lead a ghost through a series of puzzles leading to the afterlife.

Try Foldit. It's a puzzle game that actually has you playing with unsolved mysteries in science. Just last week, in fact, gamers determined the structure of an AIDS-like virus in three weeks when scientists have been stumped trying to figure it out for over ten years. The learning curve is a little steep at first, but it's fun once you know what you're doing.
